Adding UI and Sim-mods to enhance FA

Postby Kekouse » 19 Sep 2011, 12:39

Since we have now the capability to add whatever we want to FaF, I think it would be ok to think about mods.
We are all using numerous mods. Supreme Economy - GAZ-UI - One Key Donation etc...
We could (and should) install it by default with FaF.

The thing is:
What mod?
Because some of them are incompatible and others are taking some CPU-cycles.

Discuss :)

I think some motivated UI modder (ie. not me!) should unify GAZ-UI (omitting some of the lesser used features like SCU manager), AZUI, and ThePear's Moveable UI elements mods to make a "This is how SCFA's UI should have been in the first place dammit" mod, which is installed and active by default.

GAZUI has accumulated a lot of optional features which should probably be stripped out. The unified mod should be as minimal and fast as possible whilst still having as many important features as possible.

I would say:

-Mandatory-
GAZ-UI
Hotstat
Lazyshare
Range Tester
Zep Minimapzoom
V2 FA Sequentially Upgrading Extractors

-Problematic
Supreme economy (it's eating some CPU and there are two version of it)
AZUI (remove the "click-lag" but its incompatible with other mods)
Core Maximiser and other mods of this kind (example). There is always a tradeof...there is no magic when you try to maximise the Sim-speed.
Sorian AI (not compatible with the lobby)

Not mandatory
TA music mod
Economy Panel
Console ++
Hotbuild
Multi splitscreen
Opaque UI

And of course the possibility to merge mods or rewrite some others

One on the top priority is to make Sorian compatible with FAF.

You're going to have to post links to ALL of those mods because I don't have any of them.

im not sure if its such a good idea to add all those mods. First all of them must be tested if they cause any problems. I use hotbuild, hotstats, lazyshare and mex manager. For those I can say, they dont cause problems :p

Kryo: all mods will be viewed and individually assessed when I have time.

At present, however, only the over-kill reduction mod has been linked, so it's the only one I have access to and the only one that *may* be implemented into FAF.

Of course, overkill reduction does have balance implications... large ones even, so I doubt it will be implemented ever. So... don't worry Kryo. the next faf version will not come for a long time. The list of things to fix/add is simply too short. The current version of FAF is really good.

Yeah, great idea but....
Some people dont want to use these mods.
Other people use different mods and hence dont want to use these mods.
They could maybe be installed but made to run by default, I disagree with that.

+1 Leave it as it is

There are some things I consider "mandatory", though, as they correct incompleteness and half-assedness in the stock UI.

Several components of GAZ_UI. Especially bindable hotkeys, template rotation, crossfaction templates, idle indicator, selected unit info.
Also, not in GAZUI but lost in SCom > SCFA transition: Nonpersistent Build Mode.
Also draggable UI elements.
I havent tried AZUI myself, but removing latency in the UI cant be bad.
Resized Strategic Icons would also make my list, but sadly that's an asset replacement and not a mod.

These are things that the UI should have had in the first place.
