Sorian AI Question

Postby Sparkitus » 03 Apr 2016, 02:16

Hello!

New to FAF. I searched the forum for topics about Sorian AI and didn't find what I was looking for so I decided to post this.

Does FAF gimp sorian? I only ask because it seems far less challenging than it used to and my wife and I were playing with it to shake the rust off. It was doing a fair job with the non-faf (fair for us) but now I'm beginning to feel sorry for it. I've been using the "adaptive" version.

Anyway, thanks for the time :D

Hi,
I'm playing a version of the game with the LOUD AI...much superior game to the Sorian AI. It's a complete new version of the game...most of the files have changed, but there is a game updater/configuration switcher that allows you to keep both versions. If you're interested, I can send you the updater program so you can try this version.

if you use the cheating version and set all the multipliers to max and play it on a smallish map it will give you a run for your money.

that said, if youre beating the ai it might be time to play vs players : )

the ai can play quite well but its not very creative and i find that real people are more interesting to play vs for that reason.

Hello Sparkitus,
I play with a partner or on a team against the AI most of the time and it can be as challenging as your skillz require.
To have a really good game against AI you need to change some settings.

Play:
Use the FAF beta. The AI should now be fixed and able to reclaim resources.

In lobby 'Options' set:
Map : any map with TeamPlay_AI in its name. These have a full set of FA markers. Search the FAF Vault for 'TeamPlay'
Read the instructions in the map description to know the AIx start positions.
Set 'Victory Condition' to 'Annihilation' so that it does not matter if the AI loses its ACU. If any Human player loses his ACU the match is lost and although you can continue your game time length can not be counted as a 'Map Record' time for all AI units killed.
Set 'Civilians' to NONE
Set 'NO Rush' timer to OFF(default)
Set 'Pre-built base' to OFF(default)
Set AIx Omni to ON(default)
Set Both AIx Multipliers @ 1.2 - this is a good starting level for an average player. The AIx performs much better compared to the non-AIx and you can crank up the multipliers above 1.2(average<1000), lets say up to 1.7(expert 1000+) as you learn the map.

Mods:
There is a mod that makes for a better game called 'Anti-Nuke Price' that reduces the cost and buildtime of anti-nuke weapons by 10x. As you increase the AIx multipliers this mod becomes more and more essiental.
Do not use 2x resource mod. This is for total newbies and weakens the AI.

In lobby:
Add two Sorian Turtle AIx (if three AI include Sorian Air AIx.) Don't use adaptive AI it is stupid ...this AI has a bad habit of rushing with its ACU and being caught in 'no-mans-land'.
Make sure the AIx is in the correct start position. (see map description)
Team all AIs so they don't fight eachother.
Best factions for AI on most maps are Aeon and Seraphim combo.

In Game:
Once game has started go to Allies 'sharing' and share resources. The AIs will also share with it's team.

Map built-in Restrictions
Many of my maps have builtin restrictions like NO LRC, Nukes, Sat, Para. (Long Range Cannons, Nukes, Satellites, Paragon.
You can not change this and it causes the game to be Non-Ranked, as it should be. The main reason the restrictions are there is to make players turtle less and attack with air/ground/naval units instead of nukes or LRC. The idea is to prevent a one unit type easy kill, your attack will need to be multi-pronged or it will not hold up against the AIx.
Some reasons for restrictions are:
- The AI navy has no Nuke defense.
- There is NO way to turn OFF only 'Experimental Air'
- The Shields have been weakened since Sorian wrote his AI, making it vulnerable to LRC, an easy kill on a small map 10x10.

Its all about having fun ...the 1st time you play a map the AI may seem impossible to beat. The 2nd time you play the same setup it will be much easier because you know what's coming.

Thank you for the replies, and yes I would like to play people soon, but there's a bit of learning that goes along with SupCom and sometimes you have to punch a bag before you step in the ring. I'm really having to adjust build orders from what I was used to (I mainly played back in 2007... good lord.)
