Unfair Advantage of Scripts/Mods/Plugins/Etc

Postby Memhave » 23 Mar 2016, 21:12

Why are game modifying mods like EcoManager are massively unbalanced and provide an unfair advantage.

Is it not time to have a whitelist of allowed non-interfering modifications allowed in ranked?

And please, dont use "well you can use it too!" as an argument. Its not.

there is no proper way to whitelist UI mods, as the UID (identification "number") of a mod can just be changed to match a whitelisted one, the others won't notice since they don't need that mod

and scripts are outside of anyone's control altogether.

If you're looking for a game that'll have intelligence prevail over automation you've come to the right place.
FA just happen to be exactly that.

If you don't know how to eco in the first place ecomanager HURTS more than it helps. I think your understanding of what the mod does is likely extremely lacking. If people kept the mod to themselves you'd have a point, but they don't. The mod is publicly available for everyone to use. Less than 1/4 of the people who use this mod actually use it properly, I can honestly guarantee you that the other 3/4 would be better off without it.

You can use it too is absolutely a valid argument. You do realize that the mod is under serious consideration to be integrated into the game? (Of course you don't because you don't even realize making this thread was entirely pointless and it's your first day on the forum)

This discussion has been had at least 5 separate times and the conclusion hasn't changed.

Intelligence prevails over ecomanager because it doesn't fucking balance your eco for you. The best players in the game don't use ecomanager and don't need it. At some level of play it becomes merely a convenience. The way you're responding makes it so clearly obvious you either have no idea how the game works or no idea how the mod works.

It's not just this mod that is frustrating to learn about. yorick made one where it won't select Selen's that have been set to "hold fire" if you are playing Seraphim, which in itself is not a huge deal, but the possibilities are endless.

People have run amok and created dozens, maybe hundreds of "apm-freeing" mods and personally I think you're all a bunch of lazy slugs that care too much about a game to where you have to do that.

I wrote a rule in the WWPC that if anyone gets caught using such things they are banned from it, permanently. I wish the FAF community would do it as well.

APM freeing mods are simply gap fillers for where the devs screwed up. Split attack, one click wonder, mex manager, UI party, Selen deselect etc. are all wonderful things that make the game experience so much more enjoyable by reducing unnecessary clickedy clickedy. And ALL of them should have been core mechanics done by GPG themselves.

The fact that FA has the possibility for UI mods is one of the things that make it so great. Wanting to remove it from the game would severely downgrade it.

If you can't be arsed to spend the time learning the mod you aren't the kind of person who is going to be good at supreme commander anyways in the first place. In that case you've got no right to complain about people spending time to gain competitive advantages, that is how competitive shit works.
