Crash after about 1h10min

Postby B4rtlbi3 » 12 Mar 2016, 11:37

Hey Guys,

my very first entry here in the Forums! It´s a great thing to find a Community for such a great Game how Supreme Commander Forged Alliance! :D I bought SC when it came out and I didn´t played much because my PC has to less power to run it so SC was lying for years between my other Games I do not play because of lags ^^

Since 2 years I started to play it with friends in LAN and we were excited! For us it is the best RTS Game we ever played and our LANs got bigger and bigger. Unfortunateli after a time we got some issuse with the game. I do not know why but I think some Windows updates could be the reason.

We are always crashing at around 1h and 10 minutes - we are playing most of the time PvE (3v3) via LAN. We are using the Mayhem Mod and the Sorian AI.

We mostly play 81x81km maps but even when we play on a 40x40km (i think only with 20x20km maps it works) map its crashing after that time. We played without mods and with a low unit cap but nothing helps against it. The LAN is established via cable because we thought via WLAN it could be worse.

1.We are playing on a Desktop PC with W7 64bit i5 3Ghz and 12 Gig Ram and a Geforce gtx260 mostly our Host-PC.

2. I play on a Laptop with W10 i7 2.6Ghz with 8 Gig Ram and a ATI Radeon 6000 mobile Card but when I play SIngelplayer i get no Lags with High Settings all the time.

3. And the third is playing on an older Machine with W7 64bit with all details on very low so he gets no lags in no situation. (dont know the specs from him)

I installed on every PC the 4Gig Patch Enabler after the crashes but it helps not much. Everyone from us were reducing the details till no one gets a lag in any situation.

We are playing the non Steam Version because we do not like steam at all the Version of everyone is a late Version I can´t remember where to look for the Number but we are using the same.

I desperatly ask you Guys for any tips or tricks or maybe a clue what could be the reason for this. My last thought on that problem is that the game itself is not the best developed one so the huge number of units and landscape move to the crashes.

Many thanks for any answer and greetings from austria! :)

PS.: Sry for my bad english I am in a hurry... :P

first of all, welcome, always nice to see new people ( :

so almost everyone here plays through that FAF client. this automatically ensures that everyone has the latest patch+mods+maps and minimises desyncs, as well as giving you access to all the features FAF has to offer.
oh and its likely that your crash has been fixed somewhere in the last 49 patches we have after the steam version.

its easiest if you do so as well because it eliminates causes fro problems and makes it easier to solve your issue.
also you can have exactly the same experience as before since you can add ai and all those modes and everything.

so the first thing i would say you should do is - ensure that your setup is faf-based - this means that you are running the game through the client and have scd mods like sorian ai uninstalled. FAF has it integrated so theres no need to get it separately and could cause problems. likewise for other mods, but not all. also remove any "4Gig Patch Enabler" i dont know what it does but its not needed to play on here without crashing. all you need is a vanilla install of forged alliance and the faf client. everything else is done for you automatically.

here are some links which you may find useful - bear in mind this is the FAF wiki so its information is relevant to FAF.
http://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?title=Setting_Up_FAF
http://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

by updating to faf you also gain access to the tech support forums, and it likely that your problem has been occurred and solved in the past.
in the event that your crash is a previously undocumented and unfixed occurrence, it might be possible to include a fix for it in the next patch.

bear in mind we have recently undergone a major server update so it might be the case that the mods you use are not available in the mod vault. in that case please be patient while they are being updated.

hope this helps, and hope you enjoy your stay here

Thank you so much for the fast response and your feedback! :) I didn´t know that the FAF-Client is also a Community Patcher. We are very interested into PvP in the future. SC:FA is a timeless game so the Forum here could be a everyday starter to me in the future mornings :D

How I said, many thanks and I will do all this in the next few days. Will keep you up to date and try to get better Infos about our Specs and the crashes... maybe playing via the FAF-Client is all we need.

cheers and have a nice day

Exotic pretty much nailed it. Worldwide, there's a sub-community in China behind the great firewall which we don't hear much about, but the vast majority of players outside China use the FAF client. We have active tournaments, mapping, modding, and continued gameplay development. So come join us!

PS: I'm working on reinvigorating the almighty BlackOps mod pack in the next couple of months, so join up fast and you'll be around for that release, as well as a massive gameplay and bugfix patch, 3652, which is right on the horizon. Release date: Soon(tm) :p
