Guest account suggestion - rules can be quite harsh

s a casual memeber and fan of the game i wanted to open a chat about the "culture" of the community and suggest a project for the design team.

I find the level of rules in the community can be quite high and severe to those who dont understand or take time to read all the posts and rules. I just log in and play for fun not really intrested in ranks and scores although i know this important to others and i respect that. The new rules and bans mostly makes sense to me - no one likes a cheat, i get that and respect it it keeps the game fun to play.

However the rules about having one account and logging in from one PC both confuse me a little and frustrate me. I would like my son to play and have his own account which he cant easily on my pc as i have an account. Given hes 11 if i did attempt to set it up theres a high chance one mistake would create a ban and i loose access too (maybe i just dont understand and thats ok too) I suggest there should be a hardcore community where bans apply, but for non ranked games why all the fuss?

The community could be bigger if it was easier to use and didnt have rules on how to play, eg not using uef commanders drones to build? I dont get why thats bannable when its part of the game? If the game needs tweeking teek it until then everyone has the same oppurtunity to use the game as it stands thus no real unfair advantage.

This is not an attack just my views and a suggestion to create a ranked and unranked fun place where you just play under anyname without the super strict rules.. I feel it could open the game up to casul players who just love the game..

FAF is awsome, it revived a game that was as good as dead, the community who did this clearly like the pure game and did a grat job, maybe you can creat a fun space by changing the gui to allow a casul non ranked non listed player just to have a game on someone elses pc? like a guest account? just an idea.

I completely understand your point of view. And i will try to answer you as best as i can.

firstly about the rule not allowing more than 1 account per computer. The issue is that if you can create more than 1 account, some people can use it too artificially lower their rating, and so ruin games by making it not balanced. I understand that you would like your son to play with another account on the same computer. The thing is that it's not possible to know who is behind the computer (1 guy playing on 10 different accounts, or you and your son playing on your respective account).
We can try to think about alternative for your case. I think your idea of a guest account can still be abused by some malicious guys.

About the banned exploit, this is an extreme solution. Some exploit aren't fixable and were banned since sometime already (eg : terraforming) but it wasn't clearly stated before. About the other banned exploits (eg : acu drones, shield in gunship...) these are exploits that are fixable. We should have fix these bug/exploit since quite some time already. (fyi : acu drones used to be killed by interceptor, but a patch broke that feature, making acu drones overpowered.) The matter is that we have some more important task to be done first (the server change), that's why we have banned the use of acu drones until a patch get out to fix it. Banning it is a temporary solution (so people don't abuse them and ruin games of other players).

It's true that we need to work toward a better organization. Acu drones issue is already fix, but the patch is still not out. That can appear silly to most of the people. Thing is that we don't want to break the game even more, and we were still finding some bugs in the incoming patch few days ago.

I'm pretty sure when the server change will be finished, and organization would be better (some change are being done). There will be much less issue.

I still hope you can enjoy the game, as much as we all do. We are working on making it even better

PS : you could use acu drone on faf beta, since it was already fixed there. Faf beta (not server beta) isn't available anymore (since few days) because of server change.
