A bunch of bugs

Postby prodromos » 11 Jan 2016, 15:45

reported in FAF's central page.

bugs I didn't even dream they existed.

On the one hand I can understand the secrecy and the potential
of literally breaking down the game if widely known

on the other it's a little provocative revealing to the rest of us
people were winning cheap victories all this time and they will continue
to win unless these bugs get fixed.

I would rather know how these bugs work, so I can have equal chances of winning a game,
or even be able to report the offenders.

Keeping them in the dark means we will continue to lose games we shouldn't.

I suggest it's healthier to reveal them.
It's easier to identify the cheaters this way,
plus if they don't stop cheating and you warn them beforehand
you can pay them their own medicine

Sorry but you won't really get any tutorial how to exploit this bugs :D They are described enough for anyone to recognize, and if you are in doubt you can always post a replay and ask.

I am not of the people that will specifically seek exploits and I know no one will explain officially in the light of \the day.
This way I will stay in the dark because I may only have heard one or two of them but have no fucking idea how they work.
So maybe just maybe I see sth weird in some gameplay, but most chances are I wouldn't identify a cheater if I didn't know them.

"They are described enough for anyone to recognize" . With all due respect they don't
It's more of a pscychological effect than a practical one. If I was not aware of their existence
I wouldn't mind, but now..

Like telling someone he/she suffers from some illness, but not to worry and not mind
because "probably" the illness will go away. Sorry to say, but I wouldn't be honest If I say
I don't feel compromised and offended. Just my feelings

No, we won't tell you how to do it nor will we tell people how it is done.
The answer is simply "you don't need to know how, only that it's relatively obvious how it's done."

Someone using a drone is self explanatory
Someone causing units to regenerate via exploit is obvious.
Someone terraforming to gain an advantage is self explanatory
Someone killing a drop with building beneath it is self explanatory

Provide us with an example of an exploit where you feel knowing how to do it will improve detection rates as opposed to just knowing the result of it. I would be curious

"Someone using a drone is self explanatory"????
"Someone causing units to regenerate via exploit is obvious. "????
Building an invincible unit WTF is this?
Someone killing a drop with building beneath it is self explanatory yes this it is.
Rebuilding units with a cheaper cost???

I don't even know some of these existed lol let alone being self explanatory

Anyway this is how I feel. FAF is not my whole life ,I enjoy it but wouldn't lose so much time in order
to know how "self-explanatory" cheats work.

Anyway peace!

Gorton said we should report any exploits. But what are exploits exactly? Sure, something like "making invincible units" is obvious but "killing a drop with building beneath" is not so clear to me like Sovietpride stated above. It's more like a feature that needs attention and micro...
Yesterday i sent Voodoo some informations about two other "features" where i think that's just something you could use if you know it (like many other things in this game). Let's see in which category they where placed... ;)

Bug abusing should definitely not be tolerated at all and a ban is an appropriate punishment for it. But i think for new players or players that don't read the forums a ban for a month is hard for something like "Using ACU drones (in a normal way!)". Maybe here should be a bit better differentiated what the player did and why.

As for the first part: If something happens that really shouldn't happen, report it. If you're not sure, report it. Killing a drop by building beneath is is certainly not a feature, it allows you to instagib any drop without a chance for the opponent to stop and not die.

On the second: Re-read :
Upon using any of the following, you will be warned once;

I have no idea what that means.

I read this already and it is ok. It just should there be a fair chance for the players to get informed about their misbehaviour
before they get banned for a whole month.

Maybe here should be a bit better differentiated what the player did and why.

Sorry for my bad english. I only mean that it should be made a difference between using a bug of the game (invincible units) or e.g. unbalanced features (ACU drones) if it comes to a punishment.

I understand the logic about the secrecy behind the aforementioned bugs, to be clear I am not trying to troll or anything.
Respect for people keeping FA alive.
Thanks for your replies.

Still it's frustrating to know how someone who delves too much into a subject, can find ways to nullify a legitimate gaming effort.

Barring a handful of these exploits, I don't only know how they work, I had no idea they exist.

Next time I will write in console "My name is Methos" for the oldest folks who know.

There is no real difference between exploits, to be honest. Both can cause unfair wins - both get punished. Arbitrary punishments - i.e banning you 1 month for one and 2 month for other, as random amounts - would be hard to defend.
