Unit path finding slight problem

Postby GlassDoor » 21 Nov 2015, 00:25

When my commander is surrounded by engineers and i move him he starts to walk. But if he hits an engineer soon after he will stop and his move command disappears. I have died several times because of this in game but it is not a huge problem. If noticed you can always just kill a couple of engies and it is not a a problem. However i believe it might be worth looking into, not my decision. Just wanted to tell people of this small problem and I'm sorry if there are cases of this somewhere else on the forums, could not find one. Thanks for reading!

Sadly, path finding is one of those things is that is pretty much out of reach for faf to fix.

IMHO collisions between engies and units (ACU included) are really a problem since the beginning of Supcom and are really unnecessary.

What would be the problem if we remove these collisions? I only see advantages.

If we can't fix the path finding issues of the engine then we should try to walk around them like many other improvements of FAF do.

Is there a mod where i can test removed collisions? Unfortunately i can't mod myself :(

Edit: The engie mod is one attempt to walk around those engie massing and it does really well. Except that it brings a lot of possibilities
in the game. But i think it's not enough to get rid of the pathfinding problems of the engine. Look at heavy supported Missile Silos, a quickly
upgraded factory, Mexupdates, and so on...

You can also give move order to engies to get them out of the way.

If you are in the middle of milion engies and you believe your acu will magicaly teleport from there when you givi it move order you deserve to die.

@Rudolph'sRedNose: LOL

@Speed2: Personally i don't think this is a game breaker but sometimes it's really annoying and it could be relatively easy removed. E.g. i play a lot as Aeon and the jump to T3 land sometimes is vital. There is no time to wait ages for the update of the HQ, so i use a lot of engies to assist. Or another example: Nuke and Antinuke silos, if someone wants to build one of them very quick, then nearly nothing (not only an ACU) can get through this building area.

you can get all the engies on the one side of the factory and if you decide to trap your ACU there, well, what to say?

same with nuke

Another thing you can do is to have more support factories or more higher tech engies. Bug if you choose to flood your base and trap your acu in the flood, its your decision.

I fully understand how to avoid problems with engie collisions. But please tell some disadvantages of removing the collision.

Maybe we should close this thread and discuss this in the other thread: /viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11151

If pathfinding could be fixed they would have fixed it already, deal with it.
