No Noobs Not Right

Postby cipher601 » 23 Apr 2012, 21:21

I'm fairly new to multiplayer Fa and what ive noticed is that there are abundant of matches who say no noobs allowed. That is extremely stupid, and unfortunate. How are we as noobs suposed to get better if we cannot participate in these matches? I feel like theres to levels, Noob and Veteran, and to get to veteran you need to actually beat the other noobs alot. Well, these people are denying access to matches that noobs can learn from and get better, so the Veterans is like an exclusive club that noobs cant join without a good rating from playing other unexpirenced players. This is just not right, I ask for the advancement of FA, let the noobs join!

There are a LOT of "all welcome" and a lot of not "no noobs" games as well. You can join them.

Plus from the very start you will learn much faster from watching some replays.

If a severe n00b is on one team it will be a very one sided match and no fun for either team. This rules makes 100% sense just host your own game for under 500 rating or something. People your level will join and you will have fun. Getting smashed in 6 mins is not fun and you wont learn much.

What nooby said is right.

If you enter a game (like seton) and alll players are 1500+ and you're 100, the game will suck and you won't learn anything anyway (except that experienced players will yell at you for ruining the game).

I understand your frustration at not being able to learn whilst being excluded, but that presumes you will learn in these games that are "no noob". I submit that you will learn no more from these games as from not playing at all (well, you will learn how to get your head kicked in).

I'm a medium player, and I've been playing FA for a long time. I like the no noob games as with the small community here, I don't want to invest the 10-20 min waiting for a game to fill just to have it be pointless because the teams are imbalanced because a new player has joined.

If I could get another game quickly, I wouldn't care that much. But I have time for 3-4 games a week, and I don't want one of them to be a waste of my time.

Bottom line: "no noob", "no pro", "medium only" or whatever are all the SAME thing: a tool to ensure that the game fills with people of similar skills.

I presume that if you hosted a "noobs only" game and a 2000+ rating player joined that you would kick him (or ask him to leave). Why? Because you know what the "no noobs" host knows: having a game filled with players of disparate skill levels is a complete waste of time.

If you want to learn, getting smashed by better players in a "no noob" game is not the way. Take advantage of what FAF has that FA never had: real time ratings and replays. Join chat and check the ratings of players with higher skill levels than you. Then, right click on their name while they're playing (the sword icon) and view their replay. TRUST ME - this is a better way to learn.

+1.Best case scenario you won't have fun, you won't learn and you will be toyed with.
Worst case scenario, you may be disgusted by the experienced players attitude (I admit being one of them :geek: ) and their lack of understanding, and their exotic langage.

Replays are the way to go, really. That and knowing at least roughly the stats from the UnitDB.

Try to choose a few maps (not setons, players are ultimate jackasses over there  ), watch the build orders, try to copy them, to understand them and make them ur own. There's no secret really to get up to speed.

1st step: watch replays (if you want become really good, not of setons and thermofail only).

2nd step: host new players games or medium player games and get better.

3rd step: if you have enough games and a decent rating try to get in no noob games.

Its my experience (admittedly on GPGnet) that you dont have to be a total n00b to suffer a lot of verbal abuse.
You just have to be the worst player on the team.

I play games with real world friends and we occassionally bring in new people some much better than us, and some much worse, but we always promote positivity and encouragement and try to balance the teams as fairly as possible. This generally leads to much more enjoyable games for everyone involved.
