How difficult would it be to implement?
Parallel to the global and matchmaker ratings, have a separate setons rating. Maybe show it in a tooltip somewhere.
Further how difficult would it be to give different setons ratings for each position?

I don't think there can be any argument against this, except for taking up Sheeo et. al. time.

Would be great to have this for other maps as well.

And maybe map size or style (navy, land etc). Just out of interest how do you imagine an air slot rating would be calculated? Only taking you and your opponent into account or the strength of the entire team? I suppose the latter but it would just indicate how much more likely the team was to win with you in the air slot.

Damn I hate it when people make me think :)

The per slot ratings would be calculated based on both your and enemy teams. The overall setons rating would be calculated just like global rating today, but only take into account setons games.
Per slot rating would be just as above but only take into account the games where the given player was in a particular spot.

THe problem you forgot about is that you really do a lot of different rating for maps and positions. The result would be some kind of skill chart of every player. It reminds me a bit to the detailed ranking of shooter where you can see weapons kills and deaths and so on. In former times there was player track it does not work anymore. Player track itself was also shit and able to disciminate people. You got only 1 average rating there thats not good. Maybe it would be possible to create something like this for every player a small info window like for units in game. In the score window show be the possibility to rate the players skills. every player gets a few dropdown lists with good air player, good front player, good navy player and good at this map. In the info window would be written average win rate in general global rating, 1v1 rating and the 5 most played maps. and a small liste like this:

There was a terrible mistake in player track. IT was over all ratings ever. The problem once you have a skill level you are stuck to it forever. The general rating should be over the last 15 games or something like this. These pictures down there are just an example how it could look like because global ratings are in fact a shit for balance i noticed this yesterday again several times.

And please dont add DND or other stuff to mark people. It is the job of everybody on his own to know if a player lags or is an ass. No Public discrimination. Maybe to avoid wrong ratings just for fun at other positions you should add in the game lobby next to chose colour and faction a dropdown with chose position and only on this position you can be rated in this game. Or host can settle those position buttons.
Edit: Another thing also could be added rating like the positions different tactics like --- Rush Tac.: Good --- Eco Play: Good --- Drops: Good --- TML Use: Good --- or something alike maybe just with checkboxes something. No idea what exactly but to show special abilities ;)

I'm totally against this being implemented as a standard feature of FAF.

1. It will increase balance whining a 1000 fold to the point where you would never launch a game.

2. It will be so inaccurate it is useless to begin with. It takes a good number of games for rating to settle. When you have to do the same for every slot, every map, type of game, unit etc. the number of games will be far too low to make anything out of these numbers. It will lag behind your actual skill by a mile in the best scenario. Even if it's just a one map / per slot thing. Not everyone plays hours per day. Revert to point 1. People won't accept you on slot such and such because you didn't yet play a 100 games on air. And no, it's not like the rating will normalize quickly.

3. By the time it really matters to accurately know someone's skill to that degree, you are already a familiar face. The Supcom community is small enough that high level players know echother. Revert to point 2 about this idea being useless.

At least the ladder rating display would be nice since this was demanded already 1000 times in aeolus as well and should be nearly no effort. The favorite maps you can watch the persons replays as well to get an overview.
About the player track thing i know some people are afraid to be rated by others and see the true reality of their skills estimated by other players :twisted:
If you dont want to make other people estimate skills i cant see another way to estimate because win ration on different spots would not serve well here. If other positions fail what happens very often that does not include you are bad at this position. The bad thing about players rating you is having a bad day or beeing unlucky will lead to immidiate effect and people will give you shit ratings.

The maximal version of rating would be to add for every player a recording which position was chosen and rated on which map. If host will change the map the new ratings are shown of this map and then he can change your position and your rating will be shown again different. sice there would be lots of different maps with different positions saved and calculated average that would be insane ammount of data and fill very slow. Ok thats stupid. But what i offered in my pictures was more like you can watch the most played maps to estimate what kind of gameplay this person likes and see the skills in
close land war
air fight
naval fight

what i thought is more useful than the specials in my post above is to add

early game (which stands for rush)
late game (which stands for eco)

this system would reduce it to a few points and fill fast since only the last 15 games on that position should be taken into consideration. Idk but please tell me the things which are against this old player track system, what was bad about it? I simply dont know any atm.

It was mostly used maliciously.. And the same players are still around and are the majority. No way it wouldn't happen again.

I think the current faf ratings are already far too granular. I'm all for keeping the rating for 1on1 ladder matches, but in custom games I'd settle just for having few different brackets. Maybe 5 brackets max, so games could actually start without trying to shuffle around for BALANCE!!!! for 20 minutes each lobby. Just give each bracket a color code or something.

The community here isn't very friendly to new players, in fact they are downright hostile sometimes.

The rating system is mostly to blame for this IMO.
