Who's interested in a megagame?

Postby Thim » 26 Aug 2015, 02:40

Just once, I want to play Supcom with all the stops out. Get as many people as I can onboard, play a huge map, and dedicate a good four hours of my weekend to a long, slow game that builds up from T1 spamming all the way to nuclear rain. This isn't going to just happen in the lobby, so I wanted to organize over the forums ahead of time and schedule a time that enough people can show up. I'm open to negotiation on everything, but here were my thoughts:

6v6 if possible. Yeah, it will be bad lag, but as long as nobody has a potato for a CPU I don't think it will run below a -2. I could see 3-4 teams instead of two, but I feel like that might tip out of balance faster and make it harder to get a long game. And I know I don't have the inner strength to do an FFA for four hours.
40x40 or 80x80 map, but one with evenly spaced start locations, with random spawn. The idea is that if we don't start out with clearly seperated teams, it will play more like risk where different players fight over different locations on the map until people get pushed to more consolidated areas, then the big stuff comes into play. I would also like a map with lots of smaller places to fight over for this same reason, and I am considering just making my own just for this match (except for shards, I can't think of a map that fits these parameters)
Paragon off, but everything else in play. In theory, all the other game-enders can be survived by just spreading out and building shields up the Wazoo, but just getting infinite money and filling your unit cap with Tzars is going to ruin the Scathis war.
T4 extractors mod on, and maybe something to make higher level mass extractors a little more expensive. The former so that the late game goes faster, the latter so the early game goes slower.
I assume I will be talked out of this, but I want to do supremacy. On this big a map I strat snipes are going to be nearly impossible to intercept, and even dieing because of your own mistakes 30 minutes into a 3 hour game is disappointing. But with supremacy someone else can just hand you a factory and some mexes and you can fight on as a supporting general and help your team. Also, big map means attention matters more, so every team is going to want all the eyes of the field they can get.

Who's interested, what timeslots are you open, and what are your suggestions/prefrences?

Rank? And when is it going to occur? If it's not going to occur until the end of the week I will most likely be able to do it as I am getting a new, very strong computer but if it's earlier I can't

Dont want to ruin your dreams but if you want 40km+ with more than 8 people not to lag you're probably going to have to look at <180 CPU rating...I used to play betrayal ocean quite a bit (they actually filled up within the hour back then) and even my old [email protected] would lack and do -2 in lategame (181 CPU rating) and even with -2 it was way easier to play, you have so much time to think about everything.

And the big nuke exps, they'll probably get boring quickly, And the mavor will dominate because with the current shields the mavor will break through everything. And aeon has nothing that can shoot 80km far except for a normal nuke.. ( salvation shoots around 40km unless changed) So does cybran.. And on huge maps theres no way the yolona Oss will do much either since a few antinukes will cancel it out completely.

And then theres command llag... And its horrible. I think around a year ago they gave it a bigger buffer or something so the lag might be a bit better but I'm not sure. I can remember sometimes having to wait even a minute to have an engi do something.

Just saying it is fun to play with Friends and f*** around a bit but I'm not sure if I'd like to be put with a random guy for 4 hours..

But yeah, in the end ill probably join in :D

Not true, I watched a Setons a while back where Styrbjorn needed a second Mavor to break the shields shooting from beach > beach

Yeah about 13 of them, not exactly a "few"

Yes it will lag, but depending on the level of play it will not be too bad. And I can't say I ever experienced commands being processed so slow.

In 40x40 there is issue, when number of unit is getting high, you will have suuuper long time of reaction for your unit.
They can react 1 sec or more after ordee is given.

You say you want t1 spam and build up. That's not going to happen on a large map. Also I believe its ~8 antis for countering yolona. But that's only going to protect that single area. And use 120mass per second and you can't stall or they will stop building.

on another note I'd play

I think that the type of map he was envisioning would lead to t1 spam, but only if it was a lot closer to 20x20 than 40x40. Imagine something the size of setons, but with several smaller seas rather than 2 big oceans, and with players from opposing teams all mixed together across the map, so they have to fight through to link up with each other.
