UI mods

Postby theeggroll » 27 Jul 2015, 23:57

Okay so some UI mods are total bs and are basically a form of mild "hacking". I've discussed this with many people who DONT use them and they agree that these mods should not be allowed. I'm starting this thread with the hope that someone will think of a way to either make them balanced, disable them, detect them, or some other way to remove this advantage.

Unless something has changed, they aren't bannable so your best course of action is to avoid people who you know play with it.

But in ladder games, people who have something like eco manager get a bullshit advantage over you, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Yes there is. Use it yourself. Just because the game is poorly designed in these aspects does not mean we have to endure its shortcomings. UI mods are the best thing about the whole game, because they add control power. If you don't want that why not play Starcraft?

the main one im thinking of is eco manager. Gives enormous edge to some players i.e. preventing sheilds from going down b/c you dont powerstall and many many more. Eco manager either needs to be banned somehow or intergrated in so that everyone can use it. (Which i dont want but it would be fair)

Ui mods that just improve the ui i totally understand, GAZ ui and hotbuild are integrated into the game, and I use features from those frequently. Im mostly complaining about mods that give players an unfair advantage that other players would otherwise have to do themselves.

I dont play starclick b/c sup com is an astrinomically better game, i don't think that fact that I am unwilling to download a mod that gives me an unfair advantage means i should play a different game.

imo eco manager adds functionality that the base game is lacking, because there is no way to do all the micro required.

So you're telling all the noobs, that "get FAF free and cheap, and that's all you need to have fun!... Wait, well you need this mod that makes your eco. And this mod. And that mod. And btw disable this thingy of this mod because its broken and activate that mod instead..." in the end noone will want to do this.

that's why so many people want integrated game features or none. And while you're at it, please consider make the default settings as newbie friendly as possible (hotkeys, presets etc).

well, I am all for integration.

And also, if they are afraid to install some mods (which is a one click process) then FA probably isn't for them in the long run anyway, as sooner or later you need to start digging into the game and its mechanics anyway...

because, of course, the UI and control are the main differences between Starcraft and Supreme Commander.
