Loki
Niflheim Final
Theta 5
Desert Planet Ii

  • I would rather see Niflheim Final as core, and Vya-3 as rotation.
(I believe this used to be a core map a year ago, and I learned a lot on this one.)
  • I would like to see Finn's Revenge in the core pool.
  • I think the number of maps is right. I would personally prefer a pool of maybe 10, but I can deal with 12.

Ramblings of an old mad noob:
  • Roanoke is quite big...
  • I'd like some maps with fewer masspoints per player
  • I would also like to see Desert Planet as core

Niflheim has a good chance to become a core map.
Finn's gets a lot of hate, but might make it in the rotation some day.
Roanoke will probably stay as a core for a long time until we get more good maps.
I agree that maps with less mexes are better for 1v1.
I have mixed feelings about Vya-3 if many people do not like it we might take it out of the core list.

Make specific suggestions. Or make some good 1v1 naval maps we will put it in the ladder. Or get speed2 to make some 1v1 naval maps.
Open waters is on my radar, but I think many people hate it. If people want open waters, post here.

It would be nice if you can have the old system as opt-in. So if two people meet who like to play more maps, they can play them and don't have to stop playing ladder because they would only get maps they dislike every game (only half of the time against everyone who does not opt-in for it) Or have similar advanced systems that allows more people to play ladder. Many people will stop now because they don't like the maps. (No matter which maps you choose)

That way you can also see how many people really prefer many maps, and how many don't.

For map rotation itself, i like the core and rotation map system, but i would still replace (some of) the core maps eventually, just not every few weeks like the rotation maps, rather every few months, to keep some consistency but not let it become stale either.

The pool is also heavy baised towards 10x10, which i personally like, but i think it would be fair to add at at 1-2 more 5x5 maps and make sure that with the weekly exchange there are at least 2-3 20x20 maps in the pool. Since many people do not like 20x20 at all (also for time reasons), it might also be a good idea to allow them to opt-out to not play them. Or implement a veto system that allows this. (And if you opt-in for the bigger map pool, you get more vetos in return..)

I'd like to see some statistics about the number of ladder players before and after this change in a few weeks..

I love Open waters.

It might be my favorite naval map, possibly because you have very few 'free' masspoints.

Completely agree with everything you said, except.
For 5v5 maps unless many people want them, I am against them because they promote running the acu into enemy base. If there is an opt out system then for sure more 20x20 maps would be in the pool. One consideration I have is to keep the average 1v1 ladder game length on the lower side.

my suggestion:

make ladder pool with 15 maps and every week 5 of them will change

first week maps 1-5 will change
second week maps 6-10 will change
third week maps 11-15 will change
...and again...

core maps will be boring

Both you and Zock have suggested this and I think we will change the core map list, but more slowly. It is important to allow people to get very good on some maps, because it helps to improve their overall game. In the same way that playing new maps also improves the overall game.
