Old Vanilla E3 Presentation

Postby Lionhardt » 22 Jul 2015, 09:44

I just came across this video, which I had never seen before. he quality is abysmal, but one thing is very apparent. hi looks so different from the product that was actually released. The animation speed is a lot slower, making bots appear more like lumbering beasts. The effects are more vivid, and ships eve break in two when sinking. Everything looks more "epic" and cool compared to how thing actually turned out in Vanilla and FA... Even the models are different ones. And imo they look way better than the ones we got in the end. Especially and striker and Pillar. I wonder what's up with that...

it seems that also the damage units vs other units is so extremely different. Those cybran ships are shooting ethernal on some tanks and the explosions seem to be bigger. The unit ki is different. All this ships drive in straight lines. I wonder if you take a bunch of units and sent them over seton they would hardly follow such a way. This video looks like a beta version. mabye game speed was to slow, just imagine playing on -4 speed, that would be no fun.

Everything (units, projectiles) was slower in vanilla, gpg changed it for FA.

Units also did a lot more damage. The GC Did 25K damage per second instead of 2.5K. Despite it's 240K HP it would almost never reach a UEF base because of the Broadsword's firepower.

In the original supcom, the designers seemed to think slow and expensive were good things, and cheap and fast were bad things... so all experiments were unusable expensive and slow, and totally dominated by cheap fast air

Jon and Chris, partners... the nostalgia

thanks for finding the vid. what I find crazy is having the actual CEO of a company be the one pitching you his game and have actual ease and some of the best pitching I've ever seen for a product.

I mean when rockstar of some other triple A studio pitches their game at EA is it the CEO? no. they hire some dude.
