Seraphim T2 Destroyer

Postby Karottenrambo » 03 Sep 2011, 18:15

Hey,
the Sera t2 destroyer is just bad. It has the second lowest hp, its main cannons have the lowest dps and the same range as the uef destroyer cannons, the torpedos are second worst. The destroyer is also not good at land bombardment, as its beamers often just hitting the ground. Its only advantage is the ability to dive, which is not that useful for a ship that should ensure you sea superiority .

Hmm. Indeed, seraphim's advantages in naval battles are few and far in between. Killing other destroyers really shouldn't be a problem for them, however, because frigates counter destroyers better than other destroyers.

I would agree to more torpedo DPS, however... it's torp DPS is pitiful and unlike UEF, which has the same problem, the seraphim T2 navy has no support units to speak of.

Didn't the beam damage get upgraded at some point? or wasn't that change pulled in?

I don't think beam damage upgrades applied to seraphim destroyer's beam gun....

You are correct, it was only the t2 pd. Then yes, the Seraphim destroyer's dive ability is not a good enough advantage for it. It does get demolished by other navy, and sera's cruiser doesn't really have a direct fire weapon either.

seraphim got t3 subs. i really dislike the idea of deleting every faction deversity by bringing all unit stats together. It's fine that some are weaker when the faction got advantages at another point. Situations where you have even destroyer fights are very rare and you should avoid that as sera and doing more t1 navy/air until you can go for t3 navy and rule the sea.

I think the seraphim T1 sub needs a buff however. At the moment it's just terrible... and would help T2 naval battles if it were a little better.

I'm not sure about this. I actually favor sera T2 destroyers in navy battles, as most people simply spam destroyers once the T2 phase starts. By submerging, you bypass a large portion of the other faction's destroyer's DPS, and allow you to easily kill larger groups of them.

A slight buff to torp DPS would be fine IMO, seeing as they have no subhunters / other support units and their cruisers / destroyers need to fill pretty much all roles in navy.

@Zock I simply don't get this line of reasoning. There is no way you can possibly counter T2 navy with T3 navy, unless your enemy is so completely overmatched that you could have beaten them by ctrl-k'ing T1 air scouts at his ACU. ;)

I also don't believe that "imbalances" = "faction diversity". Balance should be far, far, far more important than "diversity".

If that would work, but look at the stats. They would lose against every other destroyer in 1on1, except the UEF and the UEF destroyer got at least the highest dps on its main cannons to compensate the lower range and weak torpedos.

The Numbers, always more numbers, and never tests ingame!
WTF T2 destro is already the best one as soon as microed!

You can escape from ennemi shots, whereas your opponent will never be able to escape from yours
Sera is already the strongest faction on navy maps...

and T1 sub doesn't need to be changed : more there are, and more the anti torp is efficient.
