Vanilla Sup Com VS FA Balance - Air Units

Why are all the air units so very much tougher in Forged Alliance when compared to Vanilla? See: http://supcomdb.com/unit_list/r3269/icons

The T2 gunships, for example, have more health than a T2 tank, something between 5 to 10 times what they previously had. The air scouts aren't much tougher, but everything else seems to be ridiculously so. I was under the impression that air units were more expensive and slower to build because they can hurt alot and can FLY.

Thoughts?

In vanilla, all air units had really low hp. However, all weapons that could shoot air also did really low damage. This makes sense because, IRL, aircraft are usually poorly armored relying on an ability to avoid fire to survive, and the difficult part about shooting down aircraft isnt damaging them on hit, but hitting them to begin with.

However, this caused a trouble with transports, because low-health transports carrying high-health tanks would be immune to low-damageAA fire because the tanks would absorb all the damage. So no AA/flak does high damage, air unitswere given high health to compensate, mystery solved.
