Look at the Mod Vault code and find a way to improve the system as a whole. Re-write if necessary. We are looking for ways of making mods visible, better version handling, rated blacklist/whitelist status. Other things too if you can think of them.

Autobalance button in the lobby. Basically you click it, and it uses your global ratings to shift players around into a balanced state. Does not take account of slots/positions.

Look at the Map Vault. We are looking for possible improvements to the way they are displayed, and the ability to put a black mark and a comment against a map which is explicitly unfair or cheaty. Such marks will be investigated, and the guilty maps removed.

That's why we're having this discussion in the to-do list page.
The "promotion" thing was originally Ze_Pilot's idea, I guess he thought about upgrading the download page into a hub of useful downloads that would show after the main download of the FAF lobby itself.

Here is his original proposal:

I guess we will keep this as an separate installer then.

I really don't want the FAF lobby cluttered with one-purpose new features.

What can be done is enhancing the download section of the website for stuff like that. Also, you can add it in the wiki.

And as the maps ads you saw this week, if you prepare me a little presentation text + images, I will be glad to post it in the what's new page.
http://www.faforever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=6805&start=50

As for the "everything can be done with FAF's exe" thing - I agree, but the fact is that most players dont do it. Most of them dont even know that there is a hidden 'ProgramData' folder, not to mention a 'FAForever' folder with an exe file.
Also, I really prefer to continue this conversation on the ASI page. After we reach a conclusion we could come back here if needed.

This discussion is about my mod's compliance with the standards of the to-do list and what could be done to improve it if it happens to be true (the main purpose of the to-do list).
IceDreamer's respectable stance is that the installer have to go.
My stance is that the mod only need a little promoting for no-forum users like your offer to put it on the download page and in the what's new page.

You can't force the promotion of a mod that's not even obtained from the place most people go for mods - the mod vault. And if compatibility with other versions is so important, would it be so hard to make a mod vault variant for FAF and a "normal" variant for Steam etc? And if it does get on the "what's new" page, expect other mod developers to want that for their mods aswell. What do we end up with? The "What's new" page would be cluttered with mod updates if most mods were promoted there.

EDIT: also, everything you listed can be done with FAF's exe. Literally. You can replace the current "old and familiar ForgedAlliance.exe shortcut on their desktop" with a shortcut to FAF's exe, rename it to ForgedAlliance.exe, and bingo, exactly the same functionality, just that you are launching with FAF's balance now. You can play offline, LAN, campaign, anything.

LAN? Use FAF install. Scenarios? Same. Campaign? Same again. A mod vault, menu compatible version which downloads three mods (One for each size) which can be picked in the mod menu in the lobby on a per-game basis is the correct way to do it.
You're pretty confident with the idea that everyone would neutrally use FAF for everything instead of clicking the old and familiar ForgedAlliance.exe shortcut on their desktop. Very well; What if there is no internet connection? What if you want to play FA in your offline laptop on the roads? What if you want to watch an old replay? What if you want to let your little brother play against a friend on your computer without him affecting your own personal FAF rating? What if you hate the changes in FAF like the HQ factories and want the original experience? What if FAF is not installed nor you want it to be? What if all of your friends are just a click away on Steam?

This mod is not intended only for FAF's players.
But still, lets hypothetically say that it does and that all players who uses FAF don't use their Steam or Vanilla install. What about simple LAN games? What about Scenarios? Campaigns?
It's the little things who scares people away. Also, the installer give quick switching ability between the 3 sizes with visual illustrations and direct in-game previews while quite a few players switch sizes a lot.
Resources in supreme commander can't be loaded from the hard drive in realtime so if it was an in-game option the user would have to host an empty game, start it, pick an icon set, exit and then host + start again to see the changes every time he decides to switch (Just like with GazUI's "big icons"). That's why an external switching control is in place.

Shadow's mod has a huge fanbase. It could be integrated or at least described on the what's new page. Or why can't you just upload it to the mod vault shadow?

Primarily because I dont know LUA. The mod applies himself by 'Shadowing', a build-in feature of FA.
But even if I did make a vault version it would be inadequate because whoever installs the mod on FAF will also want it to be on his steam and the vanilla versions, something that FAF's mod vault can't cover.
That's why I had to make a centralized installer.

Each time I've got time to do it, I can't refer to any thread to know what need to be done.

If you open such threads, with what info the mod is actually sending to the server, I can do it as soon as I can.

I've talked to Ze_PilOt about this before, and with all the other stuff he does, I've pretty much given up on this even getting done. If there's something I can do to help make it happen, please let me know.
