In the score screen; the graphs don't show any early-game details for longer games. If the y-axis scale was logarithmic, it would get a lot better.

Anyway; fixing the free upgrades thing is more important.

If you just use RAS and Tele SCU, these presets can be added when adjacency imbalance problem is solved.

Random thought- could we just chance the shape of the gateway to make adjacency impossible on gateways?
(IIRC, that was the reason we avoided templates from the get go. Made the powerful units too cheap.)

In theory, if the gateway building also had little wall sections jetting off it, there would be no open spots to attach pgens/massfabs to -thus solving the adjacency problem.
To clarify, I don't mean adding random wall sections to the template that could be reclaimed later. They would be part of the building or otherwise non-removable. Minor concern with increasing building size and this isn't the perfect solution... but if it would work.

/Random thoughts.

Can't you just let players create their own presets much like building templates?
Meaning I build one SCU upgrade it the way I want click "add as preset" on it and then I could build as many as I want straight from the quantum gateway?

If there is a way to add custom presets the same as buildings templates wthout removing the current presets, I'm all for it. It should not replace the current system which is more user friendly for beginners, with additional build menus directly in the Quantum Gateway which is otherwise empty, rather than in the tiny and not so obvious template queue list.

That's another great way to do it. I'm sure it can be arranged.

Just remove the adjacency bonuses from the Quantum gate so we can make SCU's with RAS or tele from it.

A lot of the presets are kinda weird; a lot have the sensor upgrade thrown in. For what !?

I like the idea of selecting what upgrades you want instead of presets. You simply can't have a preset button for everything. You will probably end up with about 40 presets lol

It's indeed very easy to remove all adjancency (or reduce it a lot) from the Quantum Gateways and it would then also probably fix the balance issues with SCU because when you don't get big energy and mass discounts from adjacency, they are very expensive, much more than t3 units.

The Seraphim Sensor Upgrade is also their range upgrade, that's why.
As for UEF Intel preset, it combines two available SCU upgrades ( enhanced sensors and jammer). These upgrades just exist and are for support on one or 2 SCU, no more, and to counter Cybran cloaked SCU. If you deem them useless, just don't make this preset, the same way you would not upgrade a SCU with them but there is no need to blame the preset for existing if the upgrades exist.

It's not necessary to have 40 presets, only useful combinations should be made. There is no point to have a preset for everything because not all combinations are useful. RAS with guns? Sacrifice + Nano ? TML + nano / TML + overcharge ? There are probably a couple more presets per SCU (essentially RAS and teleport) that could be useful, that's about 6-7 presets (or 8 presets at the very max) per SCU. And less useful presets can be removed so that the number is not overwhelming.

Or you could lower cost and build time

SCU costs and upgrade costs were reduced already several times, it's about 100 values to adjust, I know, because I'm the one who adjusted them, and it's very time consuming to redo a whole system like this (maybe you should compare what SCU were in 3599 to get the extent of the rework).

The current solution works well, I have yet to hear complains about SCU presets being a bad thing compared to when then didn't exist. People use them more than automated upgrades simply because it's more convenient to assist a Quantum Gate than micro assist all the time for each SCU. That 's why I don't agree to redo a completely different system, that would be more a personal taste and require also all SCU costs and upgrades to be redone yet again to achieve same efficiency as the current system.

It's far more efficient to improve the current system with few presets additions / readjustments (names, upgrades, maybe balance), custom icons for those skilled in Photoshop, etc.
