Depending on where i live, i have access do DSL, Cable or Optical Fiber technology, all with proprietary auth stuff related to ISP. So buying a custom router is not an option for a lot of people in a lot of countries. You just have to use then one they shipped to you.
And then most of them will reboot randomly every day for IP renewal, or even worse for service maintenance, updates from ISP or such things. People dont go reboot their routers themselves in middle of a game ^^
Most of the time you cannot just request a static ip. It's not available or it cost money, and offen it is in the range of "business offers" which always cost more money for no reason.
Sometimes tho after 2 minutes a player get back and reconnects with all players but one or two.
If two player drop at same time because they have the same ISP that make all his routers reboot at same time, then they won't be able to reconnect to each other either (fairly rare but it happenned to me with friends).

What this game really needs is a piece of code that is able to kill all connection between players during a game and re-establish them from scratch if needed (using faf proxy if required). As long as everyone stopped the game at the same tick there is no reason it can't be done, unless you have to change original code for this.
In the Netherlands it's possible to call the customer service to put your modem/router in 'bridge mode', meaning it will only function as a modem. That way you can buy your own router. They might still reboot for IP renewal (which didn't ever happen during a time when I would notice), but at least you probably have a router that's way better than the standard ISP stuff.Statistics: Posted by Aurion — 25 Aug 2014, 10:49
