If you want something to happen, do it yourself

I'm tempted to start my own mini database so I can keep track of people I play games with so I can tell if they are a quitter, lagger, or exploiter.

Yes, but this is a different situation. Of course if you play against someone and you have a bad experience, it's reasonable not to want to play with them again.

This is very different from taking the word of a benchmark as gospel, especially given peoples’ tendency to misinterpret numbers (for instance ping values and interpreting trueskill).

Well then lucky for us there are educated people who are able to use telepathy and clairvoyance to remotely gauge whether somebody else's computer is up to the task.

And especially lucky that they will have the wisdom to only kick players whose machines will definitely go below zero speed, and not indiscriminately kick people who are likely to drop to +1.

Something similar has been discussed before, and I think the general consensus was that it would lead to more unfounded discrimination. Why not just start your Seton's games with “i5 or better” in the title?

GHz is the only real relevant thing.

It's unlikely that you have a i5 with 2 go of ram. And FA is unable to take more than 4.

Yes here's my take on that also

I'm surprised people have thought of this I was just about to make a duplicate of this topic

This would be an amazing feature to have

After benchmarking some configurations (indeed RAM speed makes a difference, see this forum http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1709516) we may be able to post REAL system requirements on the website. I think most people haven't played/won't play this game because the by GPG posted system requirements didn't make sence at all. It's not just the amount of GHz that counts. So those new players find out the game runs as a slideshow and stop playing it.

This benchmark would certainly attract new players, as from that moment they know what to expect.

it has to be the number of operations per second 2 cores of a cpu can handle.

i think i have heard that a modern i7 cpu can handle about 30 operations in each cpu cycle. with 3 GHz this makes 90,000,000,000 operations per second for every core. older cpus handle probably less operations per cpu cycle. this would be an explanation why modern cpus can run at higher simspeed with less GHz than older cpus.

The auto-kick with low SIM speed is interesting, but the problem would become who gets their stuff? I would also feel bad for the people that don't hit the auto-kick threshold until 20-30 minutes into a game; especially if they aren't certain where their SIM falls and what maps/settings to avoid.

IMO, the simplest solution would be to simply take the user's CPU and display it in the lobby somewhere, possibly via hover.
