the mod has already been done, it's called "target painter" made by domino
i think it never got implemented because it wasn't 100% done, but it was the mod i was expecting the most of.
there is even video about it on YT.

I imagine that being able to tell a unit to attack or avoid attacking a given target irrespective of any move or assist orders would be incredibly useful. Is selecting a target for firing exposed somewhere in the code? Can such selection / deselection be coded?
