The best reward for the code I wrote would be if it got someone else to start helping dev faf too, feel free to volunteer ;)

For a monthly fee there is a faf patreon account https://www.patreon.com/faf?ty=h
You can also directly donate to developers. Pretty sure sheeo & ckitching deserves something hefty after sorting through the server code mess.

The idea of this patreon account is that it will be evenly distributed across active developers. We have yet to receive a significant amount of money to distribute though, so for now it's building up in the FAF bank :)

I will personally donate all of my share of the Patreon money to other causes in FAF -- e.g. tournament prize money or payment to contractors for other work. This is up to the administrative councilor :)

I may document is properly at some point but if you install vagrant and get a local copy of the code it is possible to set up a complete vm environment including all dependencies with the command "vagrant up".

I found it extremely difficult but using the new method I helped a non-technical person set up a way to run the python in no time.

You should check it out (on the develop branch)

i was reading earlier today to see if there was a way i could query the db client server to get rating information by poking some json at it, for a bot, but it took a while to even find where the server request methods actually are... there is stuff spread around everywhere...

I dont know lua (it doesnt seem that complicated, just not familiar with all its syntax) but the structure of how the faf mod and the game mods/hooks etc... but i imagine i could do some useful work on the client as it seems mostly development effort is focused on the game patches itself.

so if any client or server work needs done i can probably do that

There is no sticky on how to contribute, and the last post in a thread about client development is over two months old and is for an unofficial client that is being made because the official one is getting updated about once a year.

Also the forums are definitely not a good place for things we want people to find, some front page space should definitely be allocated for these type of things.

Since I heard we need code and all.

More seriously something needs to be done to promote the idea of code contribution, and give people the tools with which to make it happen (neither of which I think is done well/at all right now).
