Fixed by using a new version of Blender.

If I copy a turret, rename its vertex groups, create new bones for them, assign them to groups - all works perfectly. I got a unit with a new functioning turret.
However, if I want to repeat the process. to make a third turret, and I do everything exactly the same (renaiming it, ofc), I will get a new unit with 3 turrets...until i zoom at it.

As soon as the game goes from viewing the unit as an icon (zoomed out) to viewing it zoomed - the game freezes, no error message, cannot exit the game, cannot force kill the exe, all I can do Is sign out of windows to force close everything.

Does anyone have any idea where the conflict lies?

It gets even better.

So, I have the original turret (0), turret 1 and turret 2.

I can delete any of those turrets, no matter 0, 1 or 2, and the unit works again. Does not matter which one I deleted.
Furthermore, the crash only occurs if I create multiple bones for the new turret (one for the turret, 1 for barrel, 1 for muzzle)...as long as the whole turret is parented to the turret bone - it does not crash. But the turret does not work with 1 bone, ofc.
If I add just a barrel bone and link it to the barrel vertex group - bam i am back to the 3 turrets problem, game freezes.

clearly there is a conflict of some sort somewhere. What, why, where?

And yes i test every single bone in pose mode, each controls their part of their turret like they all should, on all 3 turrets. In Blender, everything looks and acts exactly how it should.

Any insight, or if someone has met with this before??

Thank you
