Before Setons was a robo map there was thermo... not the other way around.

I think Thermo was made by someone who really liked playing Seton's Clutch in front-position as UEF, but hated how naval units could bombard his choke-point firebase or how air units could harass his eco. So he made a map that's just Seton's Clutch front position, with 6 players per side, and no air units or naval units allowed. All units must move single file down a narrow corridor. You are not allowed to flank or do anything that doesn't involve directly mashing your numbers against the enemy's numbers. Nothing can be allowed to prevent the Infinite Turtle Works.

In short, if you like innovation, ending games, or building anything other than Ravagers, Shields, and T3 artillery, don't play Thermo. Building stuff on the hills is right out, that's an actual tactic and is therefore heresy.

As a few people have communicated, the solution is not to play thermo.

You know there is something wrong with a map when it's supposed to be implied that you can't do ___. All's fair in love and war.

reclaiming wrecks with drones is forbidden too unless otherwise stated.
the issue here is that you cant shoot the drones without an airforce and there
is no long enough range SAM so its kinda OP.
every serious thermo addict will tell you this (+no hill) are the rules cast in stone
by the forefathers. if you want to deviate its best to communicate that
exception before the game.

I guess they just assumed it was "no hill" like is common on that map. It's a shame Thermo is so popular it barely has anything to do with straegy gaming. Almost all long range options are disabled and it's about who can either push mid with a rushed experimental or make T3 arty surrounded with pgen the quickest.

have not played much of it, but i thought they include rule "no hill"

if there are no such rule, getting stuff on hill is obviosly good idea, i remember myself just building megalith on top with my acu on bottom, mega often gets stuck, but you can make t3 engyes and stealth fields, scatis on hill would be OP, right?

if rule is no drone, wtf does that even means? usually you are not allowed to reclaim enemy land units or enemy base, no idea if that rule applyes to not allowing building on hills, or reclaiming dead stuff on the field...

i would recommend making UEF enginering preset support commander and use his t3 drone with assistance of normal drones, make fattyes or t2 TML or make spearheads, whatever you wish

you can't tele cause it is forbidden right?

Edit: yes i think it is a good tactic to build on hill if you manage to hold middle
also would be cool to hold middle with Land exps then, not with t3 pds

cause if you abuse hill you can destroy enemy base defence from hill with t3 mobile arty and then push trought the mid
but time will be against you, enemy most like just builds 3-4 of emmisaryes and kills your ACU

or you can ust wait for their t3 arty go up and TML it while slowly killing their base with mobile t3 srty or fatty

afaik standard thermo rules are no drones, or if you can build them its forbidden to build anything on the hills even though its possible
so technicly its not cheating, but you shouldnt do it on thermo

Id recommend not play that map at all

Hello -

Tried out my first thermo game today. Build restrictions were no air and no nukes.

At some point, I figured out that UEF ACU rover drones could go up onto the plateau and build factories...eventually, I made a small tac/t2 arty base near the enemy base and started shelling. One or two people accused me of cheating.

So my question is this: Are ACU rover drones a valid tactic? You can counter them using arty and tac missiles, but I guess having the additional space is a substantial advantage....
