Number of years played or number of games played doesn't say much, that's why players don't let you join. I've also seen a guy who had -250 rating after 20 games try to join a 1500+ game and claims he is a good old player, and he didn't play well...so that's why people may be strict about their rating limit. BUT if you demonstrate that you can play well, people will usually accept you even if your rating is not sufficient :)

In any case, if you just play then your rating will catch up soon enough. Either host some 1v1s or endure a couple of noob games :)

The more players are in a game, the less effect a win/loss has on your rating. If getting a more reliable rating quickly is important to you, host some 1v1's. If you beat players with higher rating, your rating jumps up.

Yes, that's what I need. Thanks!

Problem is, <500 rating games suck hard. Even around 1000 people make many mistakes, tend to be turtles etc.

Seems like I'll just have to do games, because I don't have an old FAF account (just an account used with GPG).

i hate that as well, i play mostly 1v1's, but i think it is hard for new player to get rating, but usually they manage to do that, because if you have new account your rating changes faster

1v1 ladder and custom games have separated ratings, global rating rounded to hungreds and refreshes only once in a week, but you can see your real rating if you click on yourself in chat (view player statistics)

As long indeed as you play ranked games. Just join some "noobs"/"<###"/"all welcome" games, or host your own.

Ad 2: Unranked is when you play with balance-changing mods (BlackOps, Phantom, Advanced Shields, etc.), with unit restrictions (no air, etc.; often done in Thermopylae), survival games, etc.
Unranked is also when the game is shorter than [1 minute real time * number of players].

Ad 3: Ladder has its own ranking/rating, does not count for global rating anymore. See the Leaderboards tab, then Ladder Ratings.

1. If I use my old account does this make a difference for the FAF ranking? I suppose not. I'm using a new account because I bought FA on Steam a while back, just for ease of installation and after whatsitcalled disappeared - the similar app that was bought by another company and renamed. I alos have the original CD's.

2. I've definately played more than 5 games since installing FAF. Somehow it's not counting. I know settings need to be standard but what exactly should I watch out for? I even think the number went down instead of up.

3. How fast can I expect my rating to be at an acceptable level? Should I play 1v1 games? Is there a seperate ranking for ladder? Because I've played 1v1 ladder and this also didn't change my ranking or number of games played....

Thanks for taking the time to help me out here.
