As a semi-trained player, you will have no doubt been taught that building power adjacent to mexes is something you should never do. Right? Well there are some siduations where you can. You see upgrading mexes costs a lot of power. Especially when it is done extremely early, you need a lot of power very quickly. Well, the solution is to build that power next to the mex. This gives a considerable reduction in power draw. But only for the duration of the upgrade. You can build as much power as you need, but this costs mass, and more importantly time. surrounding upgrading mexes with pgens means spending less reouces on pgens, and getting those mexes upgraded quicker.

This technique is used where you need fast mex upgrades, and are going to reclaim the T1 power not long after. It is also used in compeditive 1v1 ladder matches, where you are not expecting the game to go long enough to bother with storage around mexes.

I noticed, that some back ppls build early on few PGens near MExes. Also this build order is described on SupCom wiki. What is the reason to do this? Only one I can think of is for the upgrading MExes. Any other? Thx
