No need to play tournaments. Just play ladder matches. When you get enough games, you get automatically placed into a division, which have different names. One of such is, as you stated, Titan. If you are 3rd, 2nd or 1st in your division, you automatically get an avatar. You just need more points than the other players in the division. There are about 20 people within a division.
