The build radius is an FAF-exclusive thing so you need to run the FAF exe to use it. You can launch the FAF version of the exe using Windows Explorer, but the least-hassle way to do it is to run the FAF lobby, host a game (passworded if you like), put in whatever AIs you want and launch the game that way.

I'm quite new to the real build orders and mechanics in fa, and after watching the replay pack with basic build orders and stuff I couldn't find a way to activate the build range for my commander ingame. Is there something in the options that I should change?
Note: I'm playing skirimish on a cd-rom of supcom fa on my computer, I'm not talking about the FaF lobby atm.
