Regarding mobile factory units like Fatboy, czar, etc: do these units ever get used as such? If you issue a move order, is all build progress as well as the queue you ordered lost?

Generally speaking, you don't spend the mass on something as expensive as an experimental for it to sit in your base and make units so it is a feature that is not efficient to utilize. If you wanted more units, you should have made 12k mass worth of production rather than just 1 fatboy. The unit is simply far more efficient at repaying the resources dumped into it when it is on the attack. Since move orders are required to do attacks, and move orders cancel the factory queue in the mobile factory, the feature is not used.

The only exceptions I can think of are megas putting an egg on a t4 wreck for extremely fast reclaiming or a fatboy making some t3 engineers for the same purpose.
