How to disable windows composition, last paragraph in the above link.

(I did not see an option to suspend a process using the usual task manager, I used process hacker to do that)

Make sure you turn it back on before you restart the computer. There might be issues at login.

If you turn explorer.exe back on and do not unsuspend dwm.exe then right side of screen will be unusable.(an awesome feature from windows)
