I sort of had the same thing happen. At first the game started with the map that looks topographical (what seems like very low fidelity). I checked video setting in options and switched to High Fidelity--Instantly it went to black. I got the topographical map on multiple attempts with multiple maps, but the map where it switched from topographical to black was "paradise". The game consisted of me with 3 AI.

Will Civilians Defense only work on maps with civilian structures? If so, perhaps someone could compile a list.

I don't see you. Please re-attempt, f the problems occurs again, quit the game, go to the FAF client, go to BETA, click "Show Logs", and upload game.log here.

There's a UI bug affecting some players (like you) that I cannot reproduce.

The black screen indicates it's a problem with the UI component.
