Unfortunately I followed that thread's advice and updated to the latest version of the client, but the error came out the same. I'm on a Windows 8.1 machine as well, so I may have a different problem than a Windows 10 one.

Error message attached since forum won't let me paste it (seems to think java file paths are urls to other websites).

EDIT: I was able to fix the error by enabling full permissions to everyone in the security settings of the FAForever folder.
