Problem solved! I had to manually relax the security permissions on the FAForever folder in the properties menu.

Unfortunately I followed that thread's advice and updated to the latest version of the client, but the error came out the same. I'm on a Windows 8.1 machine as well, so I may have a different problem than a Windows 10 one.

I receive an error message when trying to start the downlords faf client. I've read some other posts and tried deleting the client.prefs file, which didn't help. Any help is much appreciated.

Error message attached since forum won't let me paste it (seems to think java file paths are urls to other websites).

EDIT: I was able to fix the error by enabling full permissions to everyone in the security settings of the FAForever folder.
