just returned to my favorite game and run into the same issue:
the message says: "FAF could't complete the upgrade" +WIn error 5 access denied

solution: launch FAF as admin! by rightclicking the FAF.exe

Try deleting the game.prefs located at C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance

After this launch the game with ForgedAlliance.exe located at C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin and make a new account

The event viewer has no record of anything related to FAF. This is probably because the application does not crash, it simply does not load the game after the updater window closes.

Can you look into the Windows event log and see if it logs the crashes there?

FAF will not generate a log on the second startup. He has removed all mods and maps. Antivirus and firewall seem to have no effect.

I have attached the log that was generated after the reinstall.

Can't Join/Start Game

Hi, a friend of mine is having a problem, He can't join or start a game. He tries it and the window pops up to verify files, and then closes and nothing happens. It works if he reinstalls, but if he closes the launcher and starts it again, the problem comes back. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this.
