When it got to the point that virtually every game crashed I solved the problem by reconfiguring the OS for a single monitor and then physically disconnecting the second monitor. My primary monitor is rather large so I still occasionally do split screen on a single monitor, but that just works for a few minutes until it gets too confusing. It's a shame, really. Ideally in this game you'd want 2 or more monitors.

How do you use 2 or more monitors? I never even looked at the second monitor when I was running dual monitors in FA.

I thought I'd post my final experience for any others with this problem, dual monitors worked on older nVidia cards, but it'll have random crashes on the 6xx series of nVidia and won't work at all on 7xx probably because the game doesnt support the new architecture..

How old do you mean? My GTX 285 doesn't play ball, neither does my GTX 570 (although that one is with two different resolutions). I can try my 7900GTX, but I don't think I'll get lucky.

I had a GTS 250 when I first started, now I have a Radeon 6870. The computer with the GTS 250 was probably fried by heat, but there's no way heat is the problem with this rig.

You mention that these crashes occurs late in the game, have you thought maybe it is a thermal issue? Is your computer case in a well ventilated area (front, top, rear, sides clear from obstacles at least 6 inches)? Do you have the side covers on the case on?

Video cards now draw alot of power (they need external power connections) and generate a alot of heat. How is your video card mounted (are the fans on the top or on the bottom of the card when it is on your motherboard)? Typically you can access your mother board by opening the left hand side panel (looking at the front of the case), so the fans will be on the bottom of the video card and your CPU should be at the top of the case. The case that I have flips all that (I open the right hand side panel, my video card fans are on the top of the card, and my CPU is on the bottom of the board). The case that I have is also for servers so it is taller and longer and thus can breathe better. I also remove the side panels so air is constantly moving.

I recommend moving the case out as far away from your wall and into the center of your room as you can. Remove the covers so that as much air as you can get in and out. If your case is a typically ATX style, where it is tight in there and the video card almost hits the back of your DVD drive (or you had to actually had to move the DVD drive up or down so the video card can fit) it is difficult for air to flow.

Keep in mind that PCs are using alot of power now. Power supplies alone can get in the 850 to 1000 watt range. To put that in perspective, a hair dryer on high typically runs at around 1800 watts. In your PC case, do you think you can put a hair dryer running on low in there and all that heat being properly dissipated (with all your PC components off of course). Because when you are running at full load on a hot day that is what is going on in your case. It must breath.

One other thing that I can think about that happened to me was some bad UI mods, specifically Supreme Economy (before the recent fixes). At about the 20 minute mark or so, my game would just crash. It was using a poor method to update the UI elements and thus would crash when you had alot of stuff to keep track of.

Yeah that is something like the error I get. However I can at least run the game for awile without error. Maybe newer card causes bigger problem.

I wouldn't sweat it too much as both NVidia and ATi cards crash with secondary monitor enabled in game as you will see in the other thread I posted. Did you try the workaround of running in windowed mode and stretching over both screens? This way apparently works but I think only reasonable with monitors the same size or at least resolution. Check in the thread I listed for more info.

Did you try sticking your old card back in and trying? maybe just your new card causing error to surface right away. I think I may try my old 8800gt tomorrow if I can find it, as I never had problem with it in dual screen mode.

Good luck

My old card works, it does have the crashing ingame tho, I guess I'll just try windowed on two 1080p monitors instead of 1440 and 1080 :/

Which would lead to it being a DirectX bug.. How do I resolve this? I tried updating DirectX already but that doesnt help..
