Basically, as Zep suggested it's a driver issue and the solution is to update the Realtek High Definition Audio drivers to the latest version (27/09/2013 currently).

I read in another thread that mumble may be to blame for a similar problem. Anyone know a fix?

It's difficult to play FA without sound (and less fun).

Restarting the computer fixes it for 1 game max. I am on windows 8.

Another guy in #aeolus called Spartan82 is also having this problem.

-I can hear SOME sounds, but usually once a bit, as in, the first time I select a unit, factory, or engineer, I get that sound. But when I try to select it again? Nothing.
-In a test game, I had a T1 mantis force fire at some ground. I heard the first few shots, but then nothing even as I tried over and over.
-In a gw game attacking the seraphim, I heard a few thaam shots when engaging the enemy, and then nothing.
-I just killed an aeon commander and the ACU explosion was silent, but when the "score" button dropped down from the top of the screen, I heard that.

Any ideas?

Here's my last game.log: http://pastebin.com/XwPWckgi

This looks fishy to me... what does it mean?
