As i saw it today, you have to play the normal ladder start positions and yes that means you have to play the front spots on setons.
I completely disagree with that. First of all, this is not the normal ladder matches, so we can surely afford some exceptions to normal ladder rules to some extent. Like playing matches not on the normal (1 and 2 slots) starting positions. Second, setons is also not the usual 1v1 map and i doubt that gpg even thought of it being played 1v1 when they designed it. Therefore, normal rules should not apply to it. Also, we already have a precedent with Dark Heart starting positions on ladder being fixed.
Now, why do i think setons should not be played 1v1 on front spots.
Because it limits your strategy only to 1 choice - bring ACU to middle or lose. For 3 reasons. Too much reclaim there to be ignored, the distance is too short and ACU being the strongest unit you have early game. Anything else you try to do is pretty much a futile effort, the only counter to an ACU at this stage is another ACU. Other part of the map is pretty much disregarded, because the distance to all those extra mexes is too great and when you finally grab them, the game will already be decided. Oh, and the use of navy is also unlikely there.
On the other hand, starting on beach or rock positions will give you much more options and choices. You still have to fight for middle mass, but you cant bring your ACU there fast enough - you have to use other means. Also, you have to fight for the map - protect your side and raid your opponent's half. Should i meantion the navy battles? These are the things you have to do in order to win, compared to the front positions - bring ACU to mid.Statistics: Posted by Mad`Mozart — 19 Sep 2013, 19:38
