wine doesnt work cause FAF requires some special windows stuff saying that it is poor written is somehow flawed

I would like to note that the Steam version of Forged Alliance works flawlessly with any recent version of wine. This includes the matchmaking capabilities provided by Steam. Retail versions of FA can be redeemed on Steam.

I know that this does not offer the same features as FaF, but it is an alternative for quick games. I too have been unsuccessful in getting FaF to work with wine, and I doubt it will ever happen. Wine seems to be especially picky when dealing with possibly poorly written tools unfortunately.

To my knowledge FAF is a client by itself so I wouldn't think that a wine of the vanilla will suit the client and allow me to play with all the other people who play FAF so I don't see it being a viable opinion for mac users.

Btw I love your youtube channel and that is the biggest reason I'm trying to dust off the old game and get back into it

Wine is not a virtualizer, so I doubt it will trigger the detection.

Just to confirm - making FAF work with WINE won't automagically ban the account, right? I was planning to go down that road since VMWare Fusion is not permitted and work won't let me partition the Mac to double as a gaming rig.

I've got the codeweaver crossover implementation of WINE, which does a better job on some of the more DRM based Win32 calls. Not looking for support, other than not getting banned if it does spin up.

win32 calls is fine. There's just something with the multiple accounts detector that doesn't work. It detects multiple accounts even though I only have one.

I'm not asking you to support linux, I'm asking you to support wine. That should not be especially hard (I think - depends a bit on what APIs you used and such).

Supporting linux is so low on my priority list (because of all the hassle I will have dealing with it), that I think I will rewrite FA engine before.

it is no more a big problem on FAF but it was a REALLY big problem in GPGnet
like every 2nd accout in the top 50 was a smurf
