I'm not sure it's a good idea to revive this post... but here goes. I've had this same issue for about 9 months now. I've just dealt with it so far... like a fool. Disabling anti-virus doesn't help. I don't have threatfire. I have MSE. I've tried disabling firewall and MSE but it doesn't work. Which MSI editor should I use to hack on the package like ShortBuss did to see if that works?

With the help of the AdvancedInstaller support we finally found the issue. An antivirus program called ThreatFire (http://www.threatfire.com/) was causing the VM check to hang. I wasn't using it any more, but the hang was still occurring. After uninstall of threatfire the problem went away.

If anyone else is having this hang try disabling any antivirus and firewalls before doing the install. If you have threatfire you may have to uninstall it completely.

I started a thread on the advanced installer forums with this problem including the log. Still trying to get down to the bottom of why this hang is happening. Also have helped 2 others get past the same issue now, so it's not just isolated to one system any more.

They are asking for the project file to be provided so that they can try to reproduce. Any chance you can provide this to them to assist in the debugging?

Used an MSI editor to remove the step checking for Virtual Machine during install. With the check gone, install works. I still can't find anyone else failing with Windows Installer on the VM check so I'm not sure what's wrong with the system, but this is a reliable work around for now.

Not posting exact steps taken, but I can PM them if any runs into the same problem. I understand this is an intentional check to prevent people from running within a VM.

Thanks, has to be a problem with the system, just strange that it started failing around v571 and worked fine before. Poking around the .msi to see if the check can be skipped as it isn't being run in a VM anyway. Now that I know it's standard MSI I'll keep looking to see if google has any help.

Checking if you run inside a VM, don't ask me how, this is a MSI standard option.

Also tried 574 and same problem. Is the AI_DetectVM custom code? Google returns nothing on it. If it is, any ideas what could cause it to hang or how to force it to work or even bypass it?

Also note that .net 4.0 was installed per the link in another recent post on this forum.
