The original intend for the rule is to prevent smurfing, but also to help with ladder activity. Ladder activity was one of the motivations for the weekly tourneys in the first place.

This tourney could've go without the rule, but manread put it in, and it made me play 10 ladder games, so it works.

Well how would you like it if someone dropped 300-400 global rating then stole 100 of yours because of the imba statistic in between?

artificially lowering rating is forbidden. And it doesn't particulary apply to tournament, this is a general statement.

i already asked zock, it's in order to make ladder more active. (force top player to play some games..); not sure about the rating argument, because what is taken into account is the rating of the guy when tournament is announced in the forum.

Curious as to why players must play 10 ladder games for an unrestricted tourney? I often hear about trying to bring old players back for tourneys etc but i can't see that happening if you need to invest to play 10 ladder matches as a prerequisite. I can understand it for restricted tourneys to stop sandbagging and noob stomping but I don't get it for this. Please enlighten me
