No, what I had in mind was to release the unit and just have it freefall alive or dead. This way if the unit is alive when dropped it has the possibility of landing relatively intact and still be functional. Thus firing on a fully loaded transport may not be the smartest thing to do if it's directly over your base.

BulletMagnet did something similar to this, it is called Paratroopers WIP07 (Paratroopers WIP07 V7 in vault). If a transport is shot down the units automatically bail out and suffer a 20% fall damage plus a forward momentum damage. If the unit actually dies in that process then it does 100 fall damage to the unit below. There is also a bail out button so you can eject the units from the transport.

Mech Marines for sure due to the arms.
Same for Loyalists and Titans
Maybe the Ilshawoh?

i basically agree, but i think t3 units should not be able to utilize this feature, for snipe reasons,
also flak would be OP, kiting inties from a t2 transport

other units i could think of would be mongoose (maybe just the grenade launcher) and t1 mobile AA units.

it would also be interesting to have unpaused ingies on a transport automatically repair it

Haha, Battlefield 2 had that; players having an engineer kit could repair transport helicopters while flying. Needless to say, EA made AA stronger every patch and nerfed the repair rate. The first game I played with a full voice-chat team was in such a chopper with a few engineers. 0 kills, gold medal

So the overall feedback is yes to this or am I smoking crack?

I think it is a good idea, also because the AA sometimes hits the mechmarine instead. Then you're already going to reduce the GGs effectiveness. In anyway, it has to be tested and then you can come up with a final verdict.

I also think everyone else is on crack right now, with the ideas for other units firing from transports. I've tried Saya's transport abuse (something like that) once, back in the GPGNet days. It was hilarious. Especially the 6 Percies on a continental.
