maybe next councilor call, you can talk about that and try to see if they are willing to put money on some of the stuff that are there.

Sure I don’t mind. Though I’ve brought up that bounty page to brutus before and it didn’t seem like he really viewed it as that interesting of a use for funds.

Also, what gave you this idea of a "bounty" system? You seem to have taken my post from "this guy is wondering how to help" to "this guy wants to control what it is done."

I fail to see how informing you of the ways funds could be spent is assuming that?

In regards to the budget we’re using about 1/3 of funds on expenditures (servers/tournaments) with 2/3s going towards the rainy day funds.

Well if you read the message boards, the money is going directly to Visionik. He is obviously in the hole having sponsored Gyle for 2+ years and paying those 2 $350 dollar servers for probably also 2 years. There was somewhere a post where he said he spent over $60k on things related to this project, so that is the liability side.

In Visioniks post on page 3 of this thread he said that "Donations are all going to go to promoting FAF and tournaments." I don't follow the tournament scene, so no clue if ever a tournament was funded by the patreon donations. FTX made it seem in his player council run that he wanted to unlock some of those funds for tournaments, no idea if that has happened.

Server costs are down, I remember downlord streamed the server migration at that time it happened. There might be a cost for the websites, slack, or other such webstuff. Visionik stopped funding anything when he left, so now donations should be covering the server, I remember reading long time ago that Zepp posted that it cost something like 17 Euros back then in 2012-2014. Maybe it is now 2x 40Euros for those servers for the game, because the developers on Slack need it to test stuff they come up with 1-2 days every year, you know to test this ICE stuff :)

Anyway there is no clear statements for FAF of what the long term goals and short term objectives are, a lot of opaqueness and vague blabber you would expect from a promoter. The donations are not going anywhere specific which is what in investing is called sending your money to money heaven, but some people like to think their money is going to support FAF which it is, but they have no say and get no assurance what it will be used for.

Maybe the money is piling up and will be stored to fund the server costs forever like FAF has as goal. Some risks here would be Visionik dies, his bank account is closed, all money is inherited by his family who don't know or ask where it came from. Another possibility is that he uses the cashflow to amortize the losses he made in this project like some zombie banks that are still out there following 2008 XD

Anyway, he is not involved anymore, which is understandable. When you invest your time and money into something and a few of the people who promised to run the project and keep it in good standing disappoint you, you sell, or abandon it if its worth very little.

I'm just going to say that the timelines and facts in this post are very mixed up/incorrect.

But indeed there could be some more clarity where donations are used for and what kind of expenses FAF has right now. Currently dedicated server is about 50€/month, beyond that I don't know, all-in-all FAF should have quite a nice buffer by now.

From what I gather a bounty system for fixing stuff isn’t really viewed favorably. So other than hiring a full time dev we don’t really have any need for FAF funds to support dev side of things. Infrastructure wise we’re covering server costs which donations already do. The only other thing I can think of is various tournaments. People can also go donate to Downlord’s personal patreon so he can spend more time on FAF. That’s cheaper than getting a whole new dev and has totally reasonable donation milestones. That’s about all I can think of though.

https://www.patreon.com/downlord

$50 until he P R O M I S E S a monthly server update!!!!

If dev councillors were convinced to use a bounty system maybe funds could go towards that as well, otherwise the money is covering servers/tournies while also providing a cushion in the case we ever would need emergency funds.

also downlord patreon clearly lacked of advertisement, i never was aware of it.

If that's the case, I don't believe the server needs much more support and my motive to do tourneys is in the right place?

My questions were serious as goodness knows what the going-ons are currently. Sheeo has not made a post nor has moon's info really given much insight for quite some time now.

Just looking for a "where do we go next" deal. I am hoping every day there is some software that could be bought to enhance the servers or something. I have $ to help out with that but not so much I can hire someone to work...

Broadly speaking the only “necessary” expenditure is server costs right now and any additional funds are used to create a cash security blanket.

I am an awful player but still love FAF and therefore happy to donate monthly "2 beers in a pub worth" .

Up to now I have no doubt the money is spent well, as everything goes well and is maintained well.

cheers

Please allow me to thank you and your team for the great job you are doing in maintaining the servers, moderating the forums and designing and continuing to improve the game for the benefit of all of us. Your time is all priceless and without your dedication this great thing called FAF would just fade away into nothing.

Haters will always be haters, and there is no sense in even entertaining their discussions on the subject. For less than the price of a hamburger a month, they will argue over donating and supporting what they love and use everyday.

I personally am very happy to be a supporter, and always will be.

Kindest regards

Dues gladly paid every month
