i came home from a long day at work today and i was really unhappy to see this thread. I'm responsible for all moderators since i was voted for the position as councillor of the moderator team and i want to start this post with some informations about me. I'm 27 years old and a department manager in the public service of my county. I became a moderator in gpgnet 5 years ago and i was realy happy that Ze_PilOt also added me as a moderator in FAF.

Ok, let's go on topic now. All moderators actions are posted at the Administrative Actions thread and all moderators have to do a second post at the moderators forum with the reasons. We always take a screen shot if e.g. someone insults a player in #aeolus or we demand a screen shoot if someone wants to report an other user. To say the actions of a moderator are always comprehensible and i'm checking the forum every day.

Furthermore we have a rule that isn't written anywhere: "Don't decide about a topic where you are personally involved." To say if e.g. someone insults a moderator in a team game then he reports this to an other moderator.
Someone said we would abuse our power in the way that we are kicking a players out of games and there would be no way to proof this. If you are kicked by a moderator then your FA is closing in under one second and you won't get a message and all here know how a game crash is going on. To say you would notice it.

We realy try to do a good job and i'm on it to improve our work as you can see here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9532&start=100

@Zoram, we are proofing the facts at the moment and will make a decision soon.

I will close this thread now. If you have a good idea how we can improve our moderation then we will listen and you can always write a private message to me if you have a problem or you just want to talk about something.

FAF Client/Forum Rules are now also written at the wiki (thanks to Exotic_Retard):

I reported a player several time, first time in february, yet everytime I checked, reported behavior continues with no apparent consequence. If what I reported doesn't constitute an offense (winning then creating a draw to stay at 300 rating forever despite defacto winning 90 % of games), I'd like some feedback as to why ;)

Therefore, if you need some new, reasonable and calm mod who doesn't abuse his rights in any way, is GMT+1, actively playing, and online 4-5 days a week, contact me.

If you are one of those persons, then you have to accept that your "messing around" might lead to punishment, because it may go to far at some point. you cant claim to not get punished if you admit that you like to "skirt the rules".
I am really tired of these kinds of posts and statements, if youre character is not compatible with the rules you will have problems always and everywhere. Accept that or change your behaviour.

I don't care about getting banned, I just thought I'd post my experiences with (perceived?) faults in the system, because I have this strange idea that's what open discussions are for? The reason I mention I'm one of those jackasses who tends to get kicked/banned is to point out I have plenty of experience with the current system and set of moderators. Y'know, the thing we're talking about in this thread and I'd like to think I raised some valid points ;D

Also, ''accept that or change your behaviour''? That's a rather inane statement considering we're talking about a game chatroom, (of which aeolus is byyyyyyyyy faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar one of the mildest I've ever encountered) and I'm not gonna change my behaviour because certain moderators want to play the badass hardliner. Instead I take note of these occurences, remember them and contribute to the open discussion that will naturally arrive as this behaviour continues.

Oh wait, I think I'm talking in circles ;D

I think Gorton should be sent to prison for stealing his 2000$ Jacket, we all know that Brnk is only Zep's superadvanced programm that developed his own will and no longer tries to take over FAF for Zep but for himself, Legion and Viking are really terrible mods, because only people who actively play games should be mods. Also Legion abused his powers to close my game once which i otherwise would have won. And do we really want to have an ocultist that is taken over by an alien frog to lead the mod team? And Nombringer is totally unsupervised when the civilized world (Europe & US) is aseelp! Thats basicly like parking your children in front of the television. And the worst of all: This anti Cybran, anti Aeon UEF hardliner called Deering, i mean he's known for kicking players from FAF if they choose Aeon in ladder (thats basicly the only reason why Aeon have SOMEWHAT balanced winning stats) - gj Deering!

I don't know if this is satire (the occultist that is taken over by a alien frog sounds too rad to be true).

However, if anyone here really want a general cleanup of the chat and admins that are quite consistent on their actions about what gets banned then just hire them from r/shitredditsays

From my point of view, since there is no matter with moderation, there is no fix to be add.
Maybe people have some issue with mod. But i don't.

Maybe somebody had a rough period in his life and acted badly for a time. I think after couple of months they can get a second chance. The worst that can happen is that they act badly again and they get immediately banned for a few months more.

I agree with mozart that the amount of toilet humor is tiresome. Perhaps it would be nice to have a chat room separate from #aeolus dedicated to that. TAG_Uber made such a chatroom once and it worked very well.

That said I am not sure about electing moderators, because I feel like it would turn into hordes of people voting for the 2 people they have seen in a gyle cast out of 20 names they don't know.

So I'm confused as to why this is brought up. It happens. It's not bothered about.

This is different to someone insulting someone directly, or going ott.

There was a particular event that involved names that included the topics of a dog and a jar of peanut butter that got me and a few other people banned, so yeah I think it's relevant.

We didn't even use racial slurs nor directly insult anyone. We took up fifteen minutes of Aeolus chat for something harmless.

It can be a vote to renew moderator team, but a vote with a selection of possible moderator given by the council of seton by example.
We cant let any popular troller / cheater / Smurf / any player having bad behaviour prentend to be a moderator.

Do you get to vote on who becomes a cop (that might fine you some day)? And Why?
Do you think there is a difference (behavior wise) from sitting in a tram and playing FaF?
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Do you think this an easy to answer question? And ofc how much privacy do you want to enjoy?

(Sadly as a net poster im not allowed to link the meaning of the latin part. Wikipedia will surely help you understanding it.)

Not that I do enjoy or find those interesting for a bit, but I am grown up enough to ignore those and let the kids have fun. They do no harm. But hey , some people like to be righteous and act like hypocrites ;)
