It also works if done in game lobby, or in game extras mode... but it also gets wiped when you launch the next custom game.

The problem is when you launch the custom game ... it wipes the prefs file then ... so its either
a) something wrong there (faf client writing bad data? or game lobby rewriting game prefs for some reason?)
b) something wrong when the faf client read the game.prefs file in the first place... after that faf client just writes its blank values to game prefs

It may be an issue with the lobby not being able to write to your game.prefs file, but it doesn't show in your forever.log (It ought to, if it failed).

Can you upload your game.prefs file as well, and does it work if you select the UI mod once inside the lobby, for custom games? I'm assuming that it does :)

log 2 - open faf, enable mod in mod vault, close mod window. game.prefs has mod. start custom game (get to game lobby but dont launch it). mod is missing from game.prefs now. close game and faf.
