I don't know if allowing not much variation (Zocks idea) is a good way to go as we have so many good competitive maps in FAF (would be sad not to play all good maps every now and then).

I could put the top 10 selected maps as the only ones the ladder will take, while keeping the constant voting system. That's all I'm willing to do.

How about removing the chance to get maps only your opponent has selected instead?

If you have 15(10?) maps in common, you play one of them.
If you don't, you play one of the top10(15?) selected maps.

It prevents people from having to play maps they don't enjoy, while still allowing map varity - if both like it.

You could also not do that...

People like to have new maps every now and then, right? For me - and I assume for other people making ranked maps too - there would be no more incentive to carefully craft maps for the purpose of being a ranked maps anymore. Thus we would end up with even lower over all quality in maps, because maps would only ever be made for casual team games.
Making thought out ranked maps is a ton of work. Well designed maps don't just spawn from the void. If they are never going to end up in the map pool, or only with a small chance there is no reason for people to actually make the effort of making new ranked maps.

I ma go at you: Terrible idea. Computer generated maps cannot have the depth of thought out hand made maps, because the computer has no concept in mind. No way he intends the map to be played. And it is exactly this treat that is important for maps to have character.

I don't think any maps have to be removed, with the exception of crazyrush ; )

I was saying it only because i started to hate playing maps i used to like. Thats it.
And also because i care about the game i like.

As for map suggestions, you dont need to go far for those. Take a look at recent teamgame tourney, those 5 maps were really good and people who played them liked them a lot, so you can probably add those.

Wonder 3v3, Piramyd, Tabula Rasa, Forest Planet alpha, Cauldron small. But they need their starting positions changed to fit ladder.

Some other interesting maps: Dual arches, Hrungdaks canyon, mountain_lakes, Desert crysis. Most likely same problem with starting positions.

Unless these maps go away, whatever you will do to other maps won't change anything.

Also, you are probably saying that because you often play maps you hate. Well, you also play maps you like and that are not in the list too.
To answer your OP, there is no "situation to take care of". It's in your head.
They are only people not accepting that people have different tastes, and that these people also play on maps they don't like.
But they are smarter and shut up about it, because they probably realize it's the trade-of to play map they like.

In resume : To be able to have maps you like, you must accept the fact that people have different tastes.
Listening to everyone to try to make everyone happy will only leads to a blunt ladder map pool.
We can do that, but you can be sure that while it's the most voted map currently, most people won't be happy about it.

That's the limit of democracy. Mix all the colors in the rainbow in any combination and proportion you want, all you will get is brown.

So suck it up, deal with it, and if you have new interesting maps to propose, I will gladly add them.

But again, removing maps (unless they are on the list I've posted), as you can see, is entirely useless.

And no, no map in the list in "unsuitable to 1v1, imbalance" or whatever argument you've used. You don't like them, but I don't care : Some people do love them. If it wasn't the case, they wouldn't be played at all (and that is a fact).

Here is the top 10 according to the selections of the 1v1 users:

Canis River
Finn's Revenge
Fields of Isis
Blasted Rock
Winter Duel
Balvery Mountains V2
Ambush Pass
8 - Badlands_v4
Crag Dunes
Twin Rivers

But you said yourself that you stopped supporting FAF = you dont care anymore.
So can you at least people that still care manage existing features? It wont change anything for you since you dont care anymore.

This line is a complete mistery to me :?:

If you remove a map someone like or introduce a map someone does not, whining will occurs. And these whining periods will occurs periodically.
Change is bad for my peace of mind.

Actually, some maps are added time to time if you've noticed, but no map will be removed unless it's broken.

But in most cases, people get a map from the 15 most selected maps. So guess what, that's your system implemented with a permanent vote.

Well, there still will be 15 most selected maps, but different each season. Cant see why would simple map rotation hurt? Especially when you personally dont have to bother about it.

You don't really don't need too.
You are over-thinking it.
Select the maps you like, doesn't matter how much.
It won't increase or decrease your chances to have them (of course, the more you have, the more chances you have to get one, but it's unrelated to the decision process done by the server).
