It's already made "better" (although I find that an an odd choice of words) by people advertising the client and making the community grow. The more people join, the more people will play that are interested in playing other maps, so I, as well as everyone else who spreads the word about faf, make it better by doing what we're already doing.

As others have said, you could just host the maps you want to play. When I was new I preferred multiplayer as well, and that worked pretty well. Also, as others have suggested, try twin rivers for a popular, slightly more open map.

If you're having trouble getting people to join, you can host as an all welcome. They should fill quickly. I'm not really sure what you expect people to do about it if they don't... people play the maps they want to play. If worse comes to worse, you could probably just play a few gap of rohan games or whatever, win them, then go up and you can join the other games.

There is a certain irony to you saying that you don't want to play with people of your rating because their skill levels are all over the place, and then complaining when others don't want to play with people of your rating...

Oh come on now. He is right. Every other game is Gap of Rohan or Thermo. And those are silly choke maps that allow little strategic diversity. Since when do people argue about that?

In order to fight latent potential stupidity, new players (under 15 games or above 400 deviation) display 1500 rating but 0 games instead of 0 rating and their number of games.

ya if you look on the leaderboard nearly everyone with more than 10 game has a nice 50% win ratio
thats the point of ladder to lose half of your games.

I disagree with the statement that 1v1 ladder is full of die hard pro's

I've been playing for around 2 months now and I've mostly played ladder, and I've been fortunate enough to win around 56% (not at computer so can't see for sure) which I doubt would be possible I've I was playing 'pro's'. There's a wide range of players in the ladder, and a lot of them are really nice and can have a discussion afterwards about the game if you wish.

See, whenever i see some of this threads i have to laugh a bit for myself because the solution is so easy:

- Host your own games
- Play Automatch
- Join Noob games

You complain about there only beeing noob games with noobsmaps. (-->lol)
If you are good then your rating does rise very fast, you can get 1500 with 3 games.

EDIT: Additional point: You would rather piss off good players and destroy their games and get crushed in a few minutes Oo XD? (radical formulated sorry but i think you should get the point)

I think that's a problem that ELO doesn't have, because you actually start with more rating than most of the newbs have usually. Allthough with trueskill it takes a lot less time to reach an accurate rating.
