The point is:
I found this freature on PA, I like it, and knowing that this was present in Vannilla, I think "why we don't have it on FA(F)?"
so I make this Thread...
If is possible to make this, and someone volunteer to do this we would have a good freature, because we won't need to use it as a mini map, but as a PIP.

So for example: you are microing and need to know when your Nuke is ready, you put the PIP and when it is ready you just fire it.

EX2: If you use 2 screens, one as your main screen and the another as Mega Map(well is not small to be a mini map), w/ the strat zoom, you can use the mini map as a PIP

Ex3: just use it as a mini map

I actually bought 2 copies of the game so that I can play it on my work PC which had a Dell 30" monitor running at 2560x1600 (10:9) and an old 17" CRT running at 1024x768 (4:3). Hell I even remember we did a LAN party there and I would set up a projector (800x600) that we use to make sales presentations and project the second screen on the wall above my monitor for a real battle room and had our girlfriends be like the generals directing the teams based on what they see on the screen. Mostly they were calling out "they are over there!!!!" and point with laser pointers. Strategic Launch Detected indeed.

A 19" LCD monitor goes for $85 new, well within a gamers budget. There are always sales near the holidays, ebay, and garage sales. Get a job, mow some lawns, shovel some snow, save your Christmas/Birthday money. On my current home machine I have 19" LCD (1680x1050) as my secondary monitor and my 2nd 30" running at 2560x1600. The first died 20 days after the one year warranty expired ("Who needs that extended warranty" I said, $1,600 down the drain , no return possible from Newegg and no one can fix it for less than $1,200; live and learn folks, Stages of Lost). f*** you Gateway and your cow color logo, I am going to make steaks out of you one day. I could have been playing SupCom right now with dual 30"! , mother fucking Gateway. (ps. I was not the only one that this happened to, that model was crapping out on almost everyone near the same time.)

Having dual screens also increases your productivity by a long shot. I had that 30" monitor setup (minus the 17" screen) on one end of my desk and another workstation that had dual 20" CRT monitors for an older machine that had some specialized software on the other end. I always felt I worked better on the dual 20" (both running at 1600x1200) than the single 30". You just move windows around easier while the 30" it was a just a constant resizing window chore. The dual screen makes it easy to divide your workspace.

As a final note to this rambling, the 4:3 ratio I feel is better for the mini-map. With 10:9, you always need to zoom it out just a bit at the start because the top and bottom get cut off. It also feels small because you have the black bars on the side. While the 4:3 fits perfect right from the start of the game.

Quick fix, buy a second monitor (or use an old one). Your mini-map won't be so mini.

Personally I use all the features (second monitor, mini-map, and split screen at times). Even if the map does not have a texture for the cartographic view, I still find it useful to see enemy movement, especially when they pop in and out of radar range. The black background provides a nice contrast from the team colors.

Then you're only stuck with the 101 dual monitor problems with supcom... unless you have two with the same resolution and use windowed mode and then split screen...

I've never gotten it to work right with enabling the 2nd one in the settings. It always crashes like 20% of games.

a) Cartographic map (which I personally like) doesn't work for all the custom maps so we can pretend it's not there at all. So no real minimap there.

b) You can split Your screen in 2 and use one part of it as minimap and the other as Your main game (the option is in the same place minimap is). Also this way You can have it non-cartographic. Dunno how it affects performance though. There is a risk though it will kill CPU double time (and SupCom already is very good at doing so).

A- at least on Vannilla you can chose between both carto and normal view

B- cool, but is annoying (I already tried this), need some pratice...

c) Generally minimap is usefull (having only strategic zoom doesn't seem superior to me at all). Maybe not on small maps but on bigger ones zooming in and out every 2 seconds isn't really comfortable.

Who needs a mini map when he has strategic zoom?^^ Mini maps are tools for inferior games with no strat zoom. :D

I don't, but a Mini Map where you can track your ACU, would be cool, like the one on SupCom Vannilla, and w/ the size of the FA mini-Map would be double cool!!!
