i have some questions.
- what should be the Focus of the Website (Community? Updates? Clans / Galactic War? etc..)
- SupCom like design styling (for example the main menu Buttons as Buttons on the website)?
- global account system? (one Login)?

i build a example mainmenu. Give me feedback for improvements. :)
behind the ACU could be a Teaser / Stage image or Video.

a logo is indeed very important, and i would have it in the banner,

the banner also makes the content look better embedded for me, and atm the side bar looks like it missing something without it

but also think about this forum, and how it has a banner, and if this forum and the site had the same banner, the whole system would look more complete and linked
the banner also only needs to be on the front page, just to show some identity
see: http://www.autodesk.com/products/autodesk-maya/overview
it also hides if you scroll down :O

having said that, that looks great! i'm really glad we got to something here! if you use this design i will be 100% happy.

i have also started the design for this page: http://www.faforever.com/?page_id=18

i think that this could be merged with the "what is FA" page to make a "about us page"
(ignore the banner if you dont want to have it that badly, there is no need for it on this page)

but remove the bottom box for the front page, it doesn't really need any actual content, as it links to it

but... i'd always like my design to just be used

who doesnt want something like this on the top of the site?

Spoiler: show
Image
not my work

*hint* add a banner :D *hint*

in all seriousness though, i'l give some more mockups later and you can decide what to do i guess
but for now this is just fine

yes, i was designing the front page of the site, which was supposed to link to all those places.

for a design for those link you posted, i would maybe do something like your hp2 design (hp3 is better for the front page i think) , but im not sure yet, going to give some thought and come up with something :D

I like your minimal design,

switching the content is also not a good idea ...

1. thanks!
2. space is not an issue, this is a website, not a book. so, having a banner is only a waste of space if you don't want to scroll,
but in my design there is some space at the bottom (probably not going to be needed), and it will make the site look nicer, and gives us some (more) identity.

having said that, it can be smaller, and it doesn't have to be on every page in the site, this is especially true for the "whats new" tab, where it would waste space and should not be there.

3. why not? i don't see why you don't like switching content for a main page many sites use it whenever there is a lot of info to show, and really don't like cluttered sites (http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/)
Some respected sites that use switching content:
Spoiler: show

in all of these, switching content lets them show you so much more information than would otherwise be posssible, and its usually presented with a large image which really helps.

we have a lot of information to show, and i don't see how it would be seen otherwise. (i also missed out a couple of slides in the previous mockup)

if you don't like the autoplay function on the slideshow, it can be removed, its not that important

mockup2.jpg

the idea is to advertise the rest of the site and community to new people in a presentation of sorts, and also to not have any clutter around the main page, as it may put people off and doesn't look that good.

the first slide (top left) will be the first thing they see, and the rest try to get them involved
of course, slides can be added/taken away as needed
