i often observe that engineers patrolling along your base defences move out to reclaim and die in the process: while continueing to reclaim they get stupidly shot down instead of retreating.

for that logic to be implemented
- could this be done through a mod?
- what files would i need to look into?

i can only remember t happening on big rocks (not small ones like spread in canis or wrecks)
i order an engineer to reclaim several of those with shift but the reclaim oders just disappear right infront of my eye.
then i have to move the engineer to sthe rock and i think when he is in range it works.
any idea what this is and how i can fix it?

Right now, it checks mass levels once and then keeps doing whatever set if off.

The worst thing is attack-moves where if you are full at any point, all the engies quit attack-moving and just move to the point. They need to start reclaiming again without me reissuing the order if I dip below full again.

Same with patrols and repairing. If I'm high mass, repair/upgrade all you want. If I suddenly don't have 50% mass... go back to patrolling.

Just imagine, 20 or so engies paroling a factory farm and only speeding up when you have the mass. It would be wondrous.

Only problem I note is that you can't really say 'find energy rich reclaim' to an engy if mass is high -as far as I know.

I highly doubt engineers know a tree has X energy in the first place -their patrol code is so basic I doubt they'd add this functionality and never use it.

It'd take a fair amount of leg work to chance this behavior for a marginal benefit on early games in some maps.

I'd much rather have engineers reclaim efficiently. As in it's no faster me manually picking targets than them picking themselves.

Some testing, see attached replay (click player name to see the income, and speed up the replay).

I'd say that a patrolling engineer reclaims until roughly [mass is 100% and energy 75%] or [mass 75% and energy 100%] and then moves on. And if mass reaches 80% and energy is low, then the engy will go look for trees in stead of filling up mass to 100% with wrecks.

So if for example you have a ship graveyard in front of your base, that you want to reclaim quickly, overflowing mass to your mates (assuming that energy storage is full), then I'd say that patrol would not work, you'd have to set out specific reclaim orders.

(I am myself of course too often forgetting to reclaim wrecks, I'm just trying to figure out how things work.)
