My current solution is build that thing most people forget to build... mass storage (and energy storage).

Ever since I moved mass up in my build order (and made e storage very early in my order), these problems rarely proc as I hold enough mass that this isn't a problem. If I have half a tank, a few engies uping a mex won't kill me (and it actually helps speed things up!).
And don't get me started on having a lot of power storage. Haven't stalled in ages! Keep enough e-store on hand that you can cover a tech upgrade without that frantic build for the next level of power. Removes a lot of stress and covers stupid mistakes. (And you can RAS up without minutes of no shields!)

When I get good enough not to need the extra storage buffers, then I'll consider not wasting the time/mass to make them. But since they save me from stalls (and allow for quick pivots for sudden changes in needs) -I'm making them.

Pro tip : pause patroling engies too. This way they will still reclaim but not assist stuff.

Actually, that is a really good idea. :!:

Don't be retar*** and don't pause mexes you don't intend to upgrade soon. Easy!

Yes yes because making fun of him for it makes you sound so intelligent.

I don't need that actually.

This is a management issue. it happens often on big maps. players upgrade all their mex's at once then pause them so that they don't have to click all the mex's singly. it may be easy to just upgrade exactly when you want to upgrade but I though that at least in part this game is not about clicking things. I like the idea of engy's not helping anything that's paused.

How many mexes do you have ? MAx, let's say 20.
20 clicks over 30 min game (just a rough estimation). Yeah HEAVY micro indeed

But nonetheless I also agree that it's annoying. But it's simply not requiring a hard solution. That's all I am trying to point out.

I have had scenarios where my mass is inexplicably low and have found 2 or 3 lone engineers assisting mexes THAT I HAVE NOT TOLD THEM TO at the same time as I have been upgrading the mexes that I have wanted to upgrade.

But you did tell them to, when you gave the patrol/attack move order. Understand that this is the behaviour you instructed those engineers to take and adjust your methods accordingly. Never allow your mass to get anywhere near full. Because that is what triggers a patrolling engineer to stop reclaiming and start assisting.

How it works now:

1) Reclaim anything a mile from starting locale and along the attack move path.
2) IFF mass >50%, repair/assist in path
3) IFF mass >100%, move to end of path without doing anything
3b) IFF mass falls below 100% while still on path, say screw you ACU and sally forth.
4) IFF attack-move started from factory, upon completion of path just stand there without claiming to be idle.

How it should work:

1) Reclaim by filling your ring with a bunch of reclaimable stuff, reclaim reachable, move on, repeat around attack-move line
2) IFF mass >100%, move on (even mid-reclaiming).
2b) IFF mass falls below 100%, resume reclaiming.

And if paroling, toss in the repair/assist at 25% mass. STOP repairing if mass falls below 25%.

OR just make these auto-behaviors stop if their conditions are no longer met.

not sure if it is possible, but this idea actually makes sence, because if you paused something engyes should not assist it automaticly
i support this idea :)
i wonder if we could even only allow engyes to reclime while they are on patrol and not repair/assist at all, let people learn ground assist command already -_-
