Also: a totally new player will stand little chance against, even a bad player, no matter the maps. I doubt that the map will make that the map will make a noteable impact there ESPECIALLY since the new played doesnt know all the maps anyway.

What more information do you want about the map? You can never put as much information as you would get by downloading them and having an ingame look for a minute or two. (Something i consider worth if you are intressted in a map).

most of the world's internet users ARE lol
luckily, FAF wasn't intended for them hehe. FAF is unique in gaming complexity, a rare thing nowadays.

Vetoing was the things I wanted to NOT do.
If you want, you can select all maps but some.

The current system allow you to refine your choice, and allow to have a constant polling of users map preferences (like a eternal map poll vote).

I really don't see the point to switch to a system that won't work that well.

If you don't like them, don't select them.

Also, please don't think for players. Lot of <1000 like 20x20 and bigger.

No.
You have 33% chances to have a map of your selection, and 66% to get one of the most voted maps.

The button is hard to miss. I don't see the point to bother people with a popup if they don't even want to try that big button.

I know we live in a era when everything is done considering that the user is a total moron or retarded.
I find that insulting when a game is stating me the obvious ("press X to open the door" the 20th time I see a door).

Also, doing that is actually making people dumber. It's a Self-fulfilling prophecy.

I don't see how they can miss it. It can't be more obvious without being an annoyance.

I've played a few games using our 1v1 ladder match maker, and I've noticed an issue in my skill bracket (<1000). Some people at this level do not know about all the things you can do with our system, including the 1v1 map preferences.

I've found that if a player never takes the time to click that button, his default will be 0 map preferences. This causes problems when that player is paired up with someone who does actually have map preferences. The logic considers that none of the maps the player with preferences has selected is suitable for the other player with zero preferences.

My initial complaint was relative to 20km x 20km maps being in 1v1 that are too daunting and difficult to play on for <1000 players, but really this issue should be considered a functional problem with the system, rather than just something I do not like. I do disagree with some maps being available in the map pool, but that is not what this thread/issue is about.

I feel that to fix this issue, a dialogue should appear to prompt new players (or players with zero preferences) to set preferences. People in #Aeolus expressed that forcing players to pick a minimum of maps that they know nothing about as preferences would not be a good idea, so I think a good alternative is that prompt, making sure players know they have that option.

Additionally, adding more info to each map in that list could help in that process.

Please do share your thoughts, and I respectfully ask that you do not refer to the conversation about this issue in #Aeolus, because readers of this thread in the future were not there, thankyou.
