The reason for this would be to allow player control. As they walk on the battlefield the player authorises them to make independent target selections. Preventing the aforementioned power-drain-killing-eco scenario. Because the function can be disabled.

I know, I know, you meant it the other way. Just reads odd.

How about making it so that, if you have multiple unites selected that are capable of overcharging and you use it only one unit uses it at a time and not all at once. For example you have 3 SCUs selected and use overcharge one SCU fires and when you use it again the next one fires and so on, as long as there is a SCU ready to overcharge. That would make the overcharge of the SCUs way easier to use when in a group. What do you think about this idea?

It would make the mechanics less predictable. Consider the scenario where 4 Sera SCU vs Monkeylord. You actually want them all to fire their OC cannons in one huge Alpha Strike. The changed mechanic would break this.

My recommendation would be that auto-overcharge be implemented with the SCU only. It should be enabled or disabled by right clicking on the overcharge button in the tool pallet. With the default set for manual fire. Just like the auto-build function on TML's.

Yep i think it's a great idea ! It would make it a lot easier to use without making overcharge fully automatic. With the upcoming SCU presets, it would make the feature really usefull.
I suggested it in the balance topic: http://www.faforever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=5692&p=57860#p57860

I don't think this would be good for tml because of sniping ACUs, overwhelming tmd and other things that require multiple (simultaneous) missile launches. You can use ctrl+g for tmls I think.

Edit: Except if it would be toggleable for tmls, so that you can switch between single and simultaneous launch.

But for sera SCUs, unless you're running -5 simspeed past 3 units, it is impossible to use the feature decently, for a lot of reasons. For example if only 1 sacu can't overcharge (reload time), the icon is greyed for all of them, and you can't use OC until they are all reloaded. And optimizing the shots, etc, is perfectly impossible to do while you're playing if you can't watch them 100% of the time :(

But back to topic, if it were done, would it be an UI mod or a sim-mod ?
